BEAMS update - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #15182 14 posts Started by Outsider
I guess it's time for another update. I have been very busy at work trying to finish a contract(should be done this weekend) so not much has been done.

Now that the harness has been modified to fit the car it is time to go through the connectors, pin by pin. I have finally recieved a BEAMS engine wiring diagram thanks to Mario at Toysport. So many wires, so many connectors. Where to start? I choose to break the project into systems as they are drawn in my BGB wiring manual.

  • Charging
  • Starting
  • Air Conditioning
  • Cruise Control
  • ABS
  • SRS
  • Ignition
I will only work on the connectors that tie into the body harness beside the ECU and the engine bay fuse box. Any connectors that go to the ECU or anything on the engine I will not touch.

CHARGING

exact match, no changes required.

STARTING & IGNITION

One wire was missing on the BEAMS harness. Connector IJ1 was missing pin 17. Turns out this wire goes to the clutch start switch. Easiest thing to do was remove it from my old harness. I pull pin 17 from the connector and start to unwrap the old harness. I discover that it splices in about 6 inches away from the plug. Excellent I say. Problem solved. Wire has been added.

AIR CONDITIONING

This system requires looking at 2 connectors.

IM1 - goes to A/C computer.(7 wires)
A2 - goes to A/C pump. (4 wires)

The BEAMS harness A2 plug only has 3 wires. OUCH. time to trace things out. looking at the IM1 connector, it is also missing 1 wire. Easiest solution? I once again pull the missing wire from my old harness. Should be a perfect fit I am thinking. Same connectors, in the same locations on both cars. Ya right. The wire turns out to be about 6 inches short and gets spliced. Wire added.

Well, that's it so far. I hate not having time to work on the car and have decided that Sunday is car day. If I do not set aside time for the car, it will never get done.

I for one think its pretty cool that hes taking the time to give us an update when he is obviously busy with work and other things. sure some pictures would be nice, but considering this is one of the only beams 3sge swap being attempted to date any information no matter how small or seemingly inconsequential could be helpful to future swappers. thanks and good luck outsider.

I'm gonna have to keep close touch with you. I'm working of getting a blacktop. It is hard to get it with everything
i enjoyed reading this thread.... its nice to see how the beams and the 3s differ in wiring.

it would be great if u post any info that you learn about the interrior plugs (like IJ1) in your reasearch. id like to know what every pin on all those connectors is used for and why.

Thanks guys.user posted image

When I am finished I will be setting up a website. I have had a hard time tracking down wiring information and intend to set up a wiring archive with all plugs listed and what each wire does.
