wire harness problem - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #16113 31 posts Started by celicaracer18
ok i emailed elprototypes and they said

Hello:

Based upon our experience, this is not a simple job.

Testing, splicing and configuring for the application is about 30 hours. This assumes both harnesses are in original undamaged condition.

Note: We solder all joints and match all wire gauges to avoid the risk of damage to the vehicle.

The flat rate for this service is $1,500. The hourly rate is $65. / hour for damaged harnesses or repair of modified harnesses.

By now you may be experiencing "sticker" shock; however, we would like to assure you that the cost is real, as is the time to do it properly. (We do a lot of repairs to harnesses that have been improperly modified and the total cost is invariably higher for the customer.)

Regards,

ELP

is there not anyone who an do it cheaper, and i though someone told me ^they did their harness for $300

Mike(Qatar) used to do harnesses for people, but lately he's had trouble and some of his harnesses haven't worked. In addition, he hasn't been online much and isn't willing to help. So if I were you, I'd look into doing it yourself...Lagos and DG have been posting a lot of good information about the wiring, and they're very knowledgable and helpful. >smile.gif>

If you're not up to it, there's a shop in Florida called Jamasco I believe, and they do 3S-GTE swaps into Celicas...they could probably do your harness for you.

Oh, and EL Prototypes is kind of slow from what I hear. Ray's car was there forever for his swap, so if you do get your harness done by them, make sure that they'll do it in a timely manner.

i got mines done at el prototype for 700 bucks... they had to repair mike's (qatar) wires.. from what ive experience..i would not recommend mike to do the harness.. due to bad service and running off my money... anyways... yeah...el prototype will get the job done RIGHT

wow, that is a shock to hear about qatar's work being shoty. i've only heard good things about him.
Hey Lagos has any one started the how to on this?? I remember there was a thread about this two months back.. you know anyhting?? or does anyone?
i think mike had lost interest or possibly gotten frustrated about all the requests...

if you go to the site now, he states he has a new job
a lot of people talk smack about Mike. BUT, you have to remember that there are a few that did get great work from him. I'm one of them. My harness arrived on time and in perfect conditions. Plug and Play.

I know nobody's said this yet, but please don't say that he's always done FOOKED up work, cause he's helped a lot of others here on this board as well.

El Prototype is a great place to send your harness IF you know for a fact that you can't handle the work. I personaly, am not that great with electrical, so i would go with someone who knows what they're doing and has the experience to back it up.

Good luck dude. I hope you get it done properly, no matter who does it.
i never really looked to far into wiring for any swap

but i know for a fact that extending wires in the harness is one of the major steps

if i were to do a swap, i would try and make a water tight box for the ECU to be mounted in the engine bay and that way only deal with the wires for the gauge cluster and AC control to be extended to the ECU/proper place on 3sgte harness.

not sure if that would work too well

maybe some of the guys who have done the wiring themselves could comment.

other than that, spring an extra $1200 for an EMS. make your own harness(that i know i could do easily, making a hybrid harness would be much harder imo)

a friend of mine did it on his 240z turbo. two wires for each injector(12). wires to the crank angle sensor(3), signal wires to each coilpack(6) wires for map sensor(3) and intake temp sensor(1). total of 25 wires that connect to the engine(control wise, gauges require their signal wires, but thats easy to do), starting with brand new connectors and wires.

97sccelica,

putting the ecu in the engine bay wouldnt be a good idea. you can just cut a hole in your firewall, right behind the ecu. thats what i did, and my harness fits perfectly without the need to extend any if the wires.

I have a diagram from Mike, although its not 100% perfect (some colors are different, some plugs not needed) I managed to get it working basing 90% of it on the diagram.

And you will cut some of the 3s harness and mate it with the 5s plugs for the interior pieces like gauge cluster and lights via the fuse box.

I took out my CC because it was in the way of the intake, I also didnt use it ever so I dont miss it. I also dont have use of the A/C but again, didnt use it dont miss it.

well does all of this apply to a MR2 3sgte and ecu, also i don't have CC or AC.

Talkign about all this with the 3s-gte, would you think this would be the same as the 3s-ge?? Also, as far as i understand couldnt you just take the 3 plugs that dont fit, use your orig plugs an then just splice the correct wires into your orig plugs?

That's cool...a shame that people have had to pay that much money to get work that they already paid for fixed, but at least the car is running well. >smile.gif>

Man I would say screw it if I had to pay that much money for a stupid harness to be done for me. I would just get a couple of wiring diagrams and do it myself!

dont forget an uncut harness and resistor packs!

this is why people always say to get a clip. there is all these little things that you will have a very hard time hunting them down.

So can someone post the information on how to convert the 3 or 4 plugs in the interior over?
Well... ^

My RX8 2JZ Swap ThreadLink to PicsStatusLow.com,Store,Facebook
LOL this is old but... No one ever answered rsos1's question about the interior plugs. Also, Supersprynt never posted the wiring diagrams he has. I'll be starting on the wiring soon and it'd be nice if someone just handed me the information. It probably won't happen but it can't hurt to ask so I'll bump this just for the hell of it. If no one has any usefull information there is no need to post. If no one posts the information no big deal cause I've got all the stock wiring diagrams to work from but I was just looking to save some time and get a head start with a little more information.

P.S. this should probably be moved to the Forced Induction section.
