So i was thinking that i want to fiberglass my whole trunk but keep it almost like it is now but just raise the bottom alittle so i cna fit my sub in the spare tire hole. u guys think thats a good idea or not? im have been going back and fourth with it and im not sure. The reason i say the whole think is because the plastic sides are crackign some what so i thought why not redo the whole thing. I would paint the sides that would be painted black and put plexglass around the sub with black underneath.

PS i was thinking of using chicken wire so that if it turns out bad i can just take it out and try something differnt. What do yall think?? i dont knwo if its good idea or not

youd be better off using wood

but wood is so heavy..and cost more

if you plan on using your hatch at all i suggest just carpeting the fiberglass, dont paint it. the paint wont last long at all with normal use.

Why not just fix those plastic panels and then just fiberglass a sub enclosure in the spare tire well? It wouldn't be that hard to to. >>

2nd i was think plexiglass top with fiberglass on the spare wheel bottom and paint it black so would that work but the the 2 together?

And what would i do about the rest of hte trunk carpet it?

wood would be a LOT cheaper and easier then FG ive dealt with FG and anyone who has will agree

MDF is tooo heavy...
I'm gonna be re-doing my boot-build in the next few weeks using Plexiglass and perspex..... i'll hopefully get some work-in-progress pics and final pics once it's all done >>

chicken wire sux, use any kinda cloth its much better to work with, and the resin wont drip though. just get wood doweling to hold the cloth where you wont.

but yeah mdf is HEAVY. fiberglass is the best choice, plus it gives much more profetional results.

Fleece or felt are the fabric of choice. The soak up a lot of resin and make a pretty sturdy panel. Add a layer or two of fiberglass cloth to the backside and you'll be good to go.

ok i need ideas now... i think i want to keep a spare tire in my car so i need to find a way to keep it in there but not take up to much room. i was thinking of useing my stock rim 15inch.

ok im goin to give AAA a call and have them tow me if i need it.

im goign to fiberglass the bottom and plexiglass the top then stick my amp inside and invert my sub so it sticking out the top and make everything flesk with the trunk base. think that will look good

I saw a how-to/web article years ago where somebody did this to some car, and they used heavy duty aluminum foil to coat the trunk with, then fiberglassed on that to get a perfect mold of the trunk. Then they built their new trunk on top of that mold. I have no idea where I saw that, I think someone had done it to a Supra, but I'm not sure anymore.

To make my mold of the driver side trunk I used clear plastic wrap (3 layers I think) and it worked perfect. just laid the fiberglass right over it and pulled it out when it was dry.
