just get a carfax report on whatever celi you are lookin at, and find out through the seller if it has been regularly maintenanced, and what parts have been replaced (timing belt, alternator, starter, etc)

Tell your dad to let you buy it cause it's gonna be YOUR car and not HIS. Make a presentation with visual demonstrations and shiit. It might impress him.

Explain to them theres a reason why these hyundai's and kia's need these warranty's, and you will no doubt be expected to use them, usually more than you would like (I have heard hyundai's to be reliable for the first year or so now but after that it only goes down hill) explain to your dad that when you buy a toyota your buying a quality product and as long as you have a mechanic check out the celica you are interested in the celica should last you a while if you take care of it, and if all else fails make your dad buy you a brand new hyundai Tiburon those look nice atleast >smile.gif>
make sure you tell him my friend just bought a brand new 2003 Tiburon and it's been in the shop three times already for F'ed up drive train problems...clutch fell apart twice...why do you think they have those great warrantys? Because their cars fall apart
Just make up a bunch of BS to talk him into it. That's what i did with my parents.
Show him consumer reports. Our cars are best buys. And I havent seen a report magazine that put down celis. Plus show him this website. He'll see the light. >biggrin.gif>
