CAI/engine life - 6G Celicas Forums

I know that the CAI gives you that extra air that the engine likes, but ive heard that it doesn't filter as well as the drop in filters and results in a engine life descrease. like 15-20% in some cases. Is this true or false?
False, as long as you have a good cone filter. I got a k&N and love it.
Theoretically, since you are getting more air into the engine, you can run it lean, which could do some damage. I dont think with a cai you are getting that much more air in, and im pretty sure the ecu and fuel injectors can keep up fine. Just check your spark plugs after running it with the intake on if youre really worried.
See but thats where your smart computer comes into play...it detects the increased amount of air coming in and compensates with more fuel.
hah that would explain some things. i have noticed worse gas mileage since i put the cai in. i get about 35-50 less miles to the tank then i used to
Are you sure you haven't been driving you car harder since you got it? Cuz mine has gotten just a tige better.
CAI will not do any damage or any harm to your engine. Of course, a side-effect of installing a CAI is a heavy foot, which does increase fuel consumption and stuff. It will not make the car run lean, and it is not dangerous. It reduces air intake temperature, and increases flow velocity...

o ok because my friend was tellin me about these tests they "ran" i dunno who but it said somthin like the air wasn't as clean i unno he was trippin about it and said that life dropped dramatically. guess it aint true tho
My boss, who's a fairly knowledgable mechanical engineer, said that cone filters aren't as effective as box filters simply because they suck in air at a higher rate.

I think you should do some investigation if you're worried about it. Call K&N, since they sell both they won't lie to you.

Oh yeah, and more power generally means shorter engine life.
alright thanks man i try callin K&N
