Hi, I haven't posted much on this forum since I registered >> mainly b/c I haven't had time or money to do anything to my car, but I'd really appreciate your opinion on this. I have a 94 celi gt with 110k miles and when I drive it I can hear a metallic rattle coming from under the hood under acceleration, sometimes at low and sometimes at high RPM. This doesn't happen all the time, but it has become more frequent over the last few months to the point where now I hear it almost every time I drive the car. Has anyone had this problem or know what's wrong? Thanks

Nope, that can't be it. I installed the k&n filter today. However, before the k&n I used a cheap k&n immitation filter, which might have done damage to the engine??? >>

Before the celi I drove an 88 subaru which if I remember correctly made the same kind of noise when going up a hill, which was also associated with burning oil like crazy and a thick cloud of white smoke coming out of the exhaust. In my car it's just the noise.

nono, the chrome pipe is what is probably hitting.

Sounds like detonation to me

Definitely sounds more like detonation or pinging, might try a better grade of fuel. Or some combustion chamber cleaner, may have some carbon build-up raising the compression. (or possibly check the timing, may have too much advance?)

Open the hood and listen. It could be detonation, valves, or worst, rod knock...

what's really annoying is that sometimes it makes the noise when the car starts moving from a stop and then the rattle is louder. what I also noticed is that the higher the RPM the higher the frequency of the rattle.
