I bought some interior neons yesterday (they were on special,, bout 75% off) and i tried installing them today. Ive got them wired up to a switch, and when i connected them up using alligator clips it worked fine, so i soldered it all in, i leeched power off the cig. lighter.. it worked fine for a while, then about 10 minutes later, they wouldnt turn on.. it was the fuse for the cig lighter and radio. okay, so i swapped this for a new one, then as soon as i turn the ignition, they dont turn on again. the fuse blew straight away. this happened once more as i replaced the fuse. whats going on? I taped off all open connections, so im pretty sure nothing can short circuit. could it be that because i leeched off the cig lighter, its overpowering the entire system?

EDIT- I tried rewiring everything just then, found out when it happens. it works fine if i turn on the car with the switch on, but when i turn off the switch the fuse blows.. the plot thickens. maybe it gets easier. i dont know. anyone?

i did the same way you get power from the cigarette lighter....run that to the switch then to the power for the neon....then the GROUND which needs to be a good one so that it is a good connection i used the bolt for the shifter assembly....its gold in color and is on the bottom right near the driver side plastic.....and make sure your wires are good and the switch is a of a good capacity........i have a ton of things on my cig lighter......glow gauges, neons, and a few other things

I figured out what was wrong with my circuit, my switch has a light inside itself which turns on when on, i couldnt have that wired to the same + as the neon. After reading your post though i redid my ground connection >> So it doesnt matter how much stuff i have wired to the cig lighter, it should all get 12V? and also what do you mean by "switch is of a good capacity"?

Yeah these neons have an encased fused in them, what about switch capacity?

how about trying a connection from the ignition??...to the switch.. when i bought my car everything was dead... no clock, no door light or anything.. i was trying to install a stereo in it and conncected a wired to the ignition instead because all my power was dead through the stereo circuit... so i connected on from the ignition for the power... i think it should work the same for those neon lights....not sure but my opinion..

Dont ever sap power off the ignition....
