When to change power steering and brake fluids? - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #17769 16 posts Started by exxtractor
I've had my car for 4 years, and driven 55,000 miles (total 114,000 miles). I have changed the radiator coolant, auto trans fluid, timing belt, other belts, air filter, spark plugs, but I have NEVER changed the power steering, brake fuild, or fuel filter.

Anyone know the interval for this changes and is a fuel system flush needed? I use fuel system cleaner, and injector cleaner every 3000 miles.

Thanks exx

Roughly every year for fuel filter and every couple years for brake fluid and powersteering and clutch. You'd be amazed how much better the car will feel.
If your power steering fluid looks like slightly watered-down chili, it's time to change it. Until then you're not going to kill anything. If you really love your car, change it before it gets that thick.

Fuel filter I think is recommended every 10k miles. So do it now.
wow 10k for the fuel filter it a little extreme.

i think fuel filter is every 65 k miles.
I have K&N stock. Just kidding I was thinking of something else, too much video gamage. My bad.

Yeah, 10k is a little extreme, especially since it's so hard to get to.
How do you change the power steering fluid? Do I need to have it taken someplace to be done?
hey I have gone 100,000 miles with the same engine oil! Engine does make a funny sound! >biggrin.gif>
haha that's not good. i'm surprised you still have oil in there
ok to make things a lot easyier for everone... go get your owners manual.. and open up the back.. there is a chart that telles you when all the fluids should be changed.... for those of you that don't have the book.. i'll post the times when i get home... a little hit for everone out there.. fluids should be changed when they start to change color... yea you can go buy the 3kmile 10k mile the 30k mile and so on mark...but those nubers are only if you drive your cars in perfect conditions all the time ... espically for oil.. check it every day... and as soon as it changes color chang it.. it will do your engine a world of good...

Heres a question: Where is the fuel filter located on ST and GT. Ive asked some friends and they say they are typically located by the fuel pump by the tank. Does that mean taking the back seats out and accessing it that way. They also said in some cases the tank needs to be dropped and it is a beatch. I dont think that is necessary in celicas though. Fuel filters are supposed to be changed once a year on 8+ year old cars. The interval for new cars in general is 30,000 miles or 2 years.
The fuel filter should be changed every 65-70 th k.And the fuel filter is located on the driverside wheelwell firewall beside the charcoal filter!I hope that was of help!

Is that for an ST or a GT....or are they both on the right side by the firewall?
Nevermind I bought a new fuel filter so I know what it looks like, and I located it on both my 5s-fe and my 4a-fe and there in the same place. It looks like it may be a bitch to get at, removing the intake will help.
whatever happend to that chart, no i do not have the owners manual. that chart would be very grateful.
