Z-max sideskirts 1/2 inch to short - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #17938 12 posts Started by nelus
Yesterday I have bought some z-max sideskirts, but they actually don't fit well.
If I push it at one side it will come a bit, but I can't 'bend' it around the other site. So I think it misses a 1/2 inch in length. Does anyone had that same problem and also from z-max?
How do i solve this. should I add a bit in the center of the skirt?

I have a similar problem, and I'm worried about breaking the skirts. Hopefully someone has a solution. Mine would fit if I just bent them a bit.

Not sure exactly what brand mine were but they were cheap replicas that i bought off ebay. Same style.... 404/z max. They were about 3/4" too short. I had to cut most of the front part off (that wraps around the fender) and re-build it (using fiberglass). I can post some pics of them if you like.
yes please post some pics.

here is an older crop that kinda shows what part I cut down. On the end of the skirt I cut most of the top part away. I'll get some more pics of how it looks now.
I think it still doesn't fit if I do it like that. I need to cut it in 2 pieces an fill the center. But... how do I do that. Can anyone give advise?

THis is how it looks now. Inside the red box is where I added fiberglass, then body filler to make it smooth. Was my first time using fiberglass so it's not perfect. It might be easier to lengthen them somewhere else though. You would basically do it the same way. Cut the skirt in two peices then fiberglass them back together with the extra length added. If you are afraid of messing them up you probably just want to have a body shop do it. Lots of time involved and mine are still not perfect. ohh my car is dirty

thnx klr toy for your fast replys and usefull information.
yup same with mine, i'm just going to cut the end off and reconstruct from there, i believe if i do it from there it would be as noticeable when i reconstruct it.

Mine were the same way, But there is a rubber peice on the inside of the tire will if you take off it makes it about a 1/4" to short, and then I just stretched the skirt and slid it on. Fiberglass is tuff you can pull and stretch it.
Fiberglass is tough? I'm pretty sure I can stretch mine on to fit, but Fiberglass isn't that tough...I didn't think flexing it would be good. Anyone else want to chime in here?

it will only flex so much... then it's just going to break. I tried stretching my skirt to get it to fit at first. It would go on but not where it should it. It also wanted to pull the fender into the door. (with the rubber peice in the fender removed). Clearly wasn't going to work. I really just depends on how far you have to stretch it and the thickness/quality of the fiberglass. If you hear it start to crack you know your going too far.
