Hi All,

Hoping someone can give me some help installing a TWM short-shifter.

I'm from the UK and the UK Gen6's stock shifter is slightly different from the US model.

Basically (this should hopefully make sense!) the small plastic cups that attach to the bottom and side of the shift arm are slightly smaller in the US than in the UK - basically, because the TWM shifter is designed for the US market I can't fit it without some US spec plastic cups! >>

TWM have tried Toyota but with no luck so I decided to try you guys!

Hopefully someone who has installed a TRD shifter will have the old one in the garage and wouldn't mind selling me some spares! >>

ahh this is what happened to me. the cups that you have are too big right? my dad said hes going to try as soon as my holidays start (a few weeks), gonna get some heavy plastic, then dremel out a cup that fits. its an idea.

Yup, that's the problem!

Hmmm,

Dremel might work - the cups have little ball bearings that grip the metal balls so dremeling that effect may be a bit tricky.

I'm trying to source some parts through a helpful UK Toyota dealer - I'll post when something happens.

Any TRD shifter owners out there who want to make some quick cash from parts on their garage shelf?

Too bad you didn't ask me a week ago. I just cut up my stock sixth gen shifter and put in in my fourth gen.

my dad went and asked if he could order the cups, he said they dont sell parts that small (they wouldnt really be asked for much?) and he couldnt find a part number, they just sell the big parts of the shifter. ill let you know how my home made proj. goes though.

Toyota UK have said they may be able to help as long as I can get hold of the US Celica model number and a chassis number of a US car.

If anyone is willing to let me have their chassis number then it will be greatly appreciated! I've got a spare C-ONE sticker at home that could be sent as a reward!

USDM chassis numbers are AT200 and ST204. >>

I think that AT200 and ST204 are the model numbers, the chassis number is the long number printed on the bulkhead in the engine bay and the car ID plate in the engine bay - in the UK it's called a VIN (Vehicle Identification Number).

I'm assuming all the AT200 and ST204 would have come with the same shift block so I'll see what Toyota can do for me!

ok, you can have my vin, not like you can do much damage with it....lol
its for a 95 gt manual.

does that mean i get the c-one sticker?

also, does anyone know the part numbers/prices for a stock shift boot?
i know someone is making them, but they dont fit as nice cuz one piece is missing at the top.

Yep, the USDM GT is the ST204. The USDM ST AND STX are the AT200s.

I've got the chassis number written down so you you can edit the post and remove it (just in case any nasty car cloning scum are searching for a legit VIN to use...) - INSERT DISCLAIMER: NOT REFERING TO ME BY THE WAY...-

well its not hard to get numbers in the U.S., just walk up to any car, look in the bottom corner of the winsheild for the metal tag, and copy down the numbers. or just goto any junkyard and remove the metal tag off the dash....thats why im not worried about my numbers to much, but i did edit them out.

how did your searching? i made my own plastic cups, out of a thick chopping board. the hole is actually pretty good, it fits really well (takes a more than average amount of effort to pop it in), just need to sand it round and made the grooves to hold it in place. >>
