I cant get spark? - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #18085 23 posts Started by celicaspeed
I have tried everything and I cant get spark.Has anyone had this problem before?I tried a mk3 supra igniter but Im still not getting anything, can anyone that has done the 3sgte swap help me.And I also need to know what you guys had to get so the swap would work eg igniter, coil etc
Yes and Im getting fuel just no spark. Please help
are you getting spark in any of the cylinders? Check you ignition coil or module.
I would check electrical systems.. Like distributor cap and rotor, make sure that the wires don't have too much resistance.. has power blah blah. It helps if you have a voltimeter and test it all too..
AFM...

I have checked all the cyclinders and have checked the distributer and the coil is brand new.I have the perfect resistance acording to the celica altrac book.In and out of the coil and in and out of the distributer thru the wires but know spark.I tried adding a mk3 supra igniter but nothing no spark.Im getting 12v thru everything and the car turns over but no spark!

did you chk the spark plugs? lol

what spark plugs are you runing?
oh and what gen 3sgte do you have? your oem ignoitor doesnt work?
Im running ngk platinum plugs brand new and I dont have a oem igniter I was trying a mk3 supra igniter.

It's probably the AFM...

15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned
AFM has nothing to do with it thats air fuel mixture!I have fuel but no spark. My fuel injecters are low impedence injecters so I made a resistor pack and brought the resistance down to 6ohms each injecter.
go to your car and get a out your multimeter. with the key in the on position, test the coil harness plug . one of those wires should get 12v. then plug that into the coil and test the ignitor and tell me what readings you get.

you need the stock resisitor packs too in order to get the car to fire.

The resister pack I made is the same as the stock but more finely tuned. You take 4 6.5 ceramic resistors and you take all 4 ends and soder them to the main power that feeds the 4 injecters. Then you run the other end of the resistor ,one resistor to each power of each injecter so that they run in series. And that is all that a resistor pack is.
sounds like you know a little about wiring, so thats a good start.

just remember that your home made pack is not tested. in the 3sgte harness there is on black and orange wire, that sends out 12v to your coil. it also sonds 12v t the resisotr pack. the from the coil, the 2nd wire jumps over to the last pin on the ignitor. you basically want to test with a multi meter if you are getting 12v at those locations. if no take that one balck and orange wire, and hook it up to pin 4 on the 5sfe fuse box. then you should be able to see spark by grounding your plugs to the block.

Yep did that already still no spark! The black and orange is the main power to the injecters and the coil pack. then out of my coil pack is a white with blue stripe into the igniter.Everything is perfect there.Did you have to add in any relays?
only added relay i have is for the fuel pump.

if all your wiring is good, then it could be that you have the wrong ignitor, tho my car started up fine on the 5s ignitor, but it wouldnt let me rev past 4k.

Heh... I'm speaking from experience here with Toyota Trucks, AE86s, amoungst others. Try swapping out the AFM. The AFM has wires that run into the elcetrical system and if you have a bad AFM... a short can occur and cause no fire from the ignitor. I learned the hard way and now I have a nice little collection of ignitor/coils... just about EVERYTHING connects back to the AFM one way or another...

But whatever... you guys can think what you want. If you're already convinced... there's no point in explaining otheriwse.

can you please tell me what that is!Im from canada and Ive never heard of afm. When I hear afm that means air fuel mixture.

my car right now is at the toyota dealer geting worked on........... it looks like coil is giveing to much of a powerful spark......and it keeps blowing out the spark plugs wires......
Yeah I suggest your AFM also. If it doesn't work nothing will.

Your AFM is the metal box shaped object that is between your intake filter and turbo inlet.
