What is the difference besides the impellier size? And can you let me know specs and actuall sizes etc...
Differences bettween both ct26's? - 6G Celicas Forums
There are actually several different versions of the CT26 turbos. There are race versions, ceramic versions, twin entry, single entry, etc. I think twin entries were all on 7MGTE's while the singles were on the first 2 gens of the Celica GT4 3SGTE. Some of the MR2 turbos saw the ceramic CT26 and the later 3SGTEs had the CT20b... something along those lines. I think there are little to no differences between the 1st gen 3SGTE (ST165) CT26 and the 2nd gen 3SGTE (ST185) CT26. The power difference comes from the intercoolers, TVIS, amoungst other small things. Someone correct me if I'm wrong... but that's what I lean to.

I thought the 7MGTEs were single entry....thats why they wouldnt work w/ the MR2 manifold.

There are 2 kinds of CT-26 turbochargers. The first one came in the ST165(fourth generation All-Trac/GT-Four) Celica(with the 3S-GTE engine) and the MKIII Supra(with the 7M-GTE engine.) This is a single entry turbo. The second type is from the ST185(fourth generation All-Trac/GT-Four) Celica and the MK2 MR2 Turbo(SW20 chassis.) It is a dual entry turbo. The dual entry has a faster and stronger spool. The manifolds from these turbos can not be interchangeable, so if you have a single entry turbo you must use the matching manifold and so on and so forth.

Hehe...something like that. I wasn't sure which way around it was. I'm pretty sure however, the ST165/ST185 alltrac 3SGTEs had the same turbos though.

First and second generation 3sgtes came with twin entry, CT26's. The JDM versions have the ceramix turbine, while USDM has steel turbine. The Supra CT26s are single entry, and 3rd Gen 3sgtes came with the "CT20b".

didn't the later years of the MR2t (jdm only) come with the ct20b?? like 96-99?
99 project version 3.0.. hello SEMA 2010 =)
yes, later years of the mr2 had a 3rd gen 3sgte
but what about the 1st gen ct26?
but what about the 1st gen ct26?

So you're saying that you could buy a 1st gen 3sgte, upgrade intercooler, TVIS, and get about the same power as a stock third Gen?

No... 3rd gens used a different turbo, and a different head design all together. The block, crank and rods I believe are the same, but the pistons are a bit different, and the sensors and tuning is different. They are vastly different beasts in stock trim. You can build a first gen to make the same amount of power as a 3rd gen though... but the 3rd gen is simply a far superior package.

"A gen3 3S-GTE is no better a platform with which to make big power than a gen2. Although the gen3 produces more power in its stock configuration, all of that power comes from simple improvements that can be applied to a gen2 engine. Once you reach about 300rwhp, the playing field is essentially level..."
