Ok guys, I'm in the market for a snowboard, boots and bindings- and need some advice. Anything is appreciated.

Basically, what brands do you recommend that won't rip me a new gut pricewise? I'm looking at buying from Sports Chalet right now, as they have a whole package- boots; board and bindings 20% off total; thats pretty good; would add up to about 80 dollars a 400 dollar package.

What should I look for when I'm buying a board, boots or bindings?

I already know I need a wider board- as my feet stick out on rentals and cause me many a crash >_< damn big feet.

What about bindings? Definetly not step ins; but what should I look for about the strap ins?

Boots?

Hidden brands, etc information appreciated. Links to buyer guides also wanted.

Looking at a board by Morrow, anyone know of them?

BTW; my board size is between 59-63 or so.

get a large peice of wood then screw old sneakers to it. BAM done. nah just playing. i bought a last years modle board there cheaper >> i have a cheeeeap-o board but it does its job. let me fall and stuff. 5150 imperial, is my board. ski swaps are great for geting good stuff also. sessions is a great brand my friends like them alot.

Ok well it matters what ur price range is and how long and how hard u expect to ride the gear.

My fav. is ride binding the a light duriable and good looking(very important)
To keep it cheap i say the ex, lx models they are ur basic models top price of liek 169. If u want somehting u are going to keep for a long tiemand top of the line i would say the SPI's-199...or the Ride teams-270(i just bought these i love them). Theseare basically the same binding but the teams has the name team on it, the highback is a little stiffer. There are like 15 different binding choice form ride i would check out there website.

For boots u cant be choice really because they are the most important part of snowboarding. You have to have comfort with ur boots so go to the local shop and test all the boots dont go with the most expenise cuz they might not be the best fit. So go with what fits u the best.

Board...Agian i like ride they have cheap boards that are very well made. With boards u have to go with what fits ur style of boarding if it be park, or freeriding.
And you no the basic brands all have good boards burton, fourm(little mroe expensive), ride, are my main choice when looking

well board wise....depends on what you like...shorter board for park and longer for powder....the board should come pretty close to your chin...i like burton alot...fourm too but burton just bought them out....LTD is ok if you want to buget...whatever you do...donot get a LAMAR no matter how good they say it is....biggest piece of crap out there....

i like my board skinnyer due to the fact it feels more like a skate board but thats all on how big your feet is...dont want it to go off the board...

bingings...all new 2005 models just came out on new design..where they have a toe gaurd...there are soo much better...but as long as they are metal and not plastic...you should be fine...plastic binding break like crazy


boots are are really important...last thing you want is being all hurting feet up in the mountain...get a really nice set...might be expensive but its worth every penny


i mean you get what you pay for in snow board stuff...no matter if its 400 package better to spend that extra cash and be safe and ride it long then that piece of crap...any more info just reply here

i have a burton board and bindings. i think its the best quality board and you really wont have any problems with it. my board is about 3 years old and my bindings are about a year old.

if your just starting out, i would go with one of those packages. i got my first board in a package; board, boots, and bindings for 300. definitely go for a FREERIDE board, not freestyle or alpine. freeride is good for agressive or just going fast down the trails. now is definitely a good time to get a board b/c this years models are going on sale. the 05 linup is coming out.

if there are any snowboarders here there going to rip me for saying salomon, but there lower end stuff is actually really good for the price. Also, sport Chalet sucks balls. get it from a snowboard shop, you might pay a little more, but there going to know there stuff a whole lot more. And if they set it up for you make sure they screw everything in tight. I cant tell you how many students of mine came snowboarding with sports chalet stuff that was mounted improperly.

yeah i wouldnt buy from SC....unless you are a cheap guy.

i would go to a little skate/snow shop...they tend to give you deals to make the sales....you might pay more but like i said last thing is to ride a piece of crap....plus they can mount your board to binding and get you fitted...cuz your binding have to be a certain degree or you will ride all crooked...they can wax it and tune it too...they have a machine that heats your boots and make them fit like a glove....

i cant stress enough...if you plan on going a few time and years might as well go all out then paying more in the long run....last years models should be on sale right now..2005 are soo nice but a damm board is 500 bucks a pop...good luck

yeah i went and was checking out the new jermey jones...whoa its nice...that put like 1500 psi of presure soo its never loses shape...crazy stuff..499 price tho...my friend just bought a 2005 burton...its had leather on top and you can shave the sides soo its better for rails if you want...its really nice

this is my setups from last season. 2 Pride 160 wide, with Ride Mig bindings. I also have some agency bindings from last year that are this years model. And that Ride 163wide is for sale if anybody wants it. its almost brand spanking new ill let it go for $200. Ill through in the agency bindings for another 75. Pics if you want em

Looks like everyone gave you some advice already, most of it looks like good advice too.

I've been boarding since I was 8 or so, so I have a preety good amount of experience with that stuff. Right now I have a M3 hybrid board (best there is) Drake Matrix bindinds (good, but a bit heavy) and Northwave boots (very comfortable and stiff, good for advanced riding)

What you should get depends on your expereince and prefernce. I'd recomend not getting a package, becuase most of them are crap.

Board Choices:
M3- best all around
Arbor- Great for cruzing
Gnu- good all around, cheap
Ride- Good all around
Jenius- Great smaller company

Bindings-
Drake all the way.

Boots-
Northwave- for hard riding
Burton- good all around boot

Thats all i can think of off the top of my head. I'd avoid burton boards, i hear that they break easily. Dont get cheap on bindings: they will be the first thing to break after heavy riding. Boots need to be comfortable and a little stiff. the stiffer the boot, the more control you have.
