iPOD - 6G Celicas Forums

Well, i just bought a iPOD from a friend for cheap, real cheap. And it's awesome, music is clear, all the options work, everything. But the problem is, no wires, just the iPOD. So, i don't exactly know what i got, and i don't know what to buy. Um, this iPOD doesn't look like the new ones from apple, like the click wheel one or whatever. So, help?

you're friend doesn't have the firewire cable? sounds like it might of been stolen
Might've been....but that's not a big deal around here. If doesn't hurt ya, can you answer my questions? because if it isn't feasable, then i'll go ahead and give it back, get my money back (which is what he promised if he couldn't find anything.

What am I saying, i feel really bad right now. Dan, my friend, wouldn't do something like that. I'm sure there is some explanation

meh whatever. I for one would never buy something stolen because I believe in something called karma, but to each their own

basically you need to find out what generation the ipod is and buy the appropriate cable off ebay. you may also need a 6 to 4 pin firewire adaptor if you are plugging it into your pc. hope that helps
It does help, and thankyou for working with me Ghost. Do you have one? like, how do you think i would find the generation, even the GB size

As i look at that site, why don't you tall me some neat features about it, and the stuff you like, what not. And which one do you have?

Looks like i have a 3rd generation with 15 GB capacity. Now what?

The most important lesson I learned from Karate-Dô Kyôshan–“You can not be what you do not believe you are”
ok, i see the Firewire cable, and understand that for my 3rd gen. But, i don't understand this 6-4 pin adaptor? Could you find me one of those also?

The most important lesson I learned from Karate-Dô Kyôshan–“You can not be what you do not believe you are”
ok, so let me get this right.
And anybody can correct me or talk to me.

For my iPod to work, i have to have the firewire cable (which plugs directly into my iPod), then to plug the other end of that cable into my PC, i have to have a 6-4 pin firewire plug.

firewire is for macs. you need an adapter for the normal cable made for apples to adapt to pc so you can plug it into your pc.

i am awesome
which the 6-4 pin converter is for?

pretty sure a lot of the newer pc's come with firewire. but they use 4 pin rather than the 6 pin found on macs. hence the adaptor. now if you're pc doesn't have firewire I dunno what you can do, maybe there is a usb adaptor somewhere...

i dont have firewire but my ipod mini came with a cable.

as in the PC coming with it, you just mean the USB data ports. Such as the two located on the front of my Dell, and 4 more on the back. Looking at the end of my flash card reader USB, it has 4 flat rods (i guess pins)

So you're saying there is a cable that'll link directly to my PC?

i was askin ghost.

what did you pay for this ipod?

i am awesome
i might just go with the firewire cable and the 6-4 pin adapter because of the charging thing. If it doesn't say i'll charge, then it won't. That item you gave me andason doesn't say it'll charge. Either way, i'll go for the cheapest route

Ohhh, eek, understood.
Well, to be with the safe side, i just went ahead and ordered house charger, car charger, and the data usb cable that plugs into my computer directly in a package for 14.99 plus 6 dollars shipping. So, $20.99, and those three things ARE apple products, brand new. A side note, i went to super wal-mart, and they had a generic car charger for the 3g and 4g ipod for 34 FREAKING DOLLARS.

Thanks for everybodies help.
