Music and the decades - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #18625 6 posts Started by saleeka
tonight ive been listening to some of my older cd's and I really came to think... out of all the cd's/records put out in the past 3 decades, I can only think of three that really make me think of that era completley and make me think of "back then"... i dunno what you guys and girls think of this but when i think of 90's music, its got to be No Doubt's "Tragic Kingdom", the 80's U2 and the "Joshua Tree", and the 70's fleetwood Mac "Rumors"... they all make me think of their particular era and how good they were in their time frame... i think of 6th grade and No Doubt simoultaniously- they are what make the 90's the "90's" for me (with TLC too to a degree), and the other two really capture the essence, to me, of what pop music was in their timeframe (with or without you can bring me to tears everytime I hear it- its that powerful in its message to me)... but what do you peeps think? music is SOO subjective so i think it would be cool to hear everybody's opinion on this one >smile.gif>

when i think of the 70s i think of pop with sort of a disco feel, like Abba or original grass roots rock like Creedence Clearwater Revival

80s i think of cheesy, catchy pop rock like REO Speedwagon or Styx or Micheal Jackson when he was a genius and not a freak.

90s i again think of cheesy soft rock stuff like Hootie and the Blowfish and Ska music

Its Orville's Celica, i just drive it...
60's - Old School Rock / Blues (Beatles, Elvis)
70's - Disco (sh!t) / some of the best Rock ever made (Zepplin, AC/DC, Stones, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden... etc)
80's - Pop music forsure
90's - Rap, Grunge rock and unfortunatley more pop

I agree, for me it was the rock scene in the 90's, rap popularity took hold for sure in the 90's aswell. But early on there wasn't that huge void between the genres. I still remember listening to radio and it was a mix of rap, rock and pop. Anyone in the detroit area probably remembers 96.3 the planet, that station was bad ass.

In the 90's I hated the 80's, now I love em! Man Duran Duran really takes me back to being a little punk >tongue.gif>

I think its funny how what music you listen to, really divides the social groups, for the most part rockers didn't hang with rappers and vise versa. THis is more true in highschool, but I think still applies, I usually tend to hang with people that like metal and stuff.
70's i dunno
80's i think hair metal
90's i think crappy boy bands
00's so far i think pop punk
