Man...first snow fall fell a couple of nights ago. The next morning, my doors were frozen shut!!! I couldn't get it! It was so aggrivating. I seriously was late to school and I was out at my car for 25 minutes trying to get it open.

Does anyone else have this problem? What would be a quick and easy solution to prevent this from happening again?

worst thing u can do--it will FREEZE!!

if its a hatchback--leave hatch unlocked- and go thru there instead...
or maybe, try not locking it/and club it instead...

its funny to see how frustrated you were after you've gotten them open..


Why would you poor water on frozen doors? Its frozen...water freezes. If it doesn't work right away, you got yourself a bigger problem and in 5 degree whether, it wouldn't work right away.

I'm talking about like something I could do right now that would help in the future. Like some type of prevetative solution.

For example...would WD40 on the door latch help anything?

put a little oil around the door, where the door meet the door jams.

Mine does it too. But, when I go outside and unlock the doors it unlocks just fine, then I pull up on the handle and nothing happens. I have to wait for the doors to warm up before I am able to open them. I was told that water just got inside of the locking mechanisms and froze them but I don't think that that is what is happening becuase it feels like it is unlocking when I turn the key. Any ideas on this one as well?

i don't know about the locking mechanism... I have an alarm so when I unarm it, it unlocks. I really don't think it was my lock because I ended up having to enter in my car from the passenger side and I manually locked and unlocked the door from the inside. It still didn't make a difference.

WD40 on the weather stripping was what my dad used to use when we lived in MN. Something that disperses water...

My doors don't freeze to the body they freeze internally. When I pull up the handle nothing happens, the door doesn't unlatch...smart asses.

don't put on WD-40, all that does is corrode metal to free up tight spaces such as hinges

i would just pull on it (or park it in a garage)

easy solution, dont be a wimp......j/k, give the door a couple good hits near where the door jam is, and give er a good yank, like others have said, its not that hard....

geez...why didn't I think of that? Tonight, I'll park the car in the garage that I don't have...

I'd love to see you guys just "yank da b!tch open". Like Anub1s said, its something internally thats freezing. I kicked the door from the outside all around the doorjams, still had nothing.

Plus you can only pull on it so hard...I mean you do only have the handle to hang on to...

When you have time, try opening up the door panel, and spray some de-icer onto the door unlocking mechanism.. See if that works..

Ok, heres what you shoul really do.
Use wd40 on the door locks and hinges. It's allways a good idea to have them well oiled.
Use selicon spray on the rubber parts. It helps for a couple of days if its really cold.
But a preventetive solution would be to use A\C whith intake from outside and not recirculation. When using recirculation the humidity builds up inside the car and when you stop your engine all the water freezes up along the joints.

This is a sure sollution since winter here in Russia lasts for about 3-4 months and all of the above works for me. >>

WD40 doesn't corrode metal. It disperses water... water corrodes. it would do the exact opposite.

listen to Kwanza, or do some research and find another thing that will eat water.

i think this problem is the cause of weather strippings lookin like crap in the end.
sticking and constant cool/heating.

I don't use WD40, as it's a bit tough on rubber and plastics....

I use a teflon based synthetic lube, and smear it around the contact points. Seems to work.

The biggest issue I have is the windows freezing to the rubbers. This seems to cure it.

I suggest getting a hair dryer and a cloth then heat the areas around your door frame and wiping any liquid off of it.
