Hid Question - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #19227 21 posts Started by rjbibeau
i saw a hummer h2 the other day and i saw that it had tese nice true purple/blue hid's more purple though. i was wondering what the k rating would be on those and i was thinking that it would look good on a celica. does anyone know the k rating at which it looks to be a purple tone. it's even more purple than the lexus and bmw headlights. i tried looking for hummer stuff on the web but coudn't find anything. i'm thinking their like a 10,000 k rating according to what i have been reading. the mucculloch kits that are on ebay are like 300 bucks. but then i would have to get two sets to match right. i dunno this is confusing. anyone have anything.

I think its like anything over 10,000
Uh, no i have 8000K and its got a purple "tint" to them. Not good for the rain however I dont use the car in the rain so i went for them.

Oh and 300 is pretty cheap especially for 10K and thats ridiculously high. Cars that come with them today are like 4500K - 6000K. Thats white, and thats the ideal range. Any blue or purple makes them useless in the rain. Also you wouldnt get 2 sets unless you want ALL your lights to be HID, but IMO its not worth it.

Also the stock celica headlight is not ideal for HID - personally I wouldnt get HID with those headlights.

did you just use your stock assembly?
he has JDM projectors...
so he used the projector assembly and threw in 8000k hid's
I have 8000 k you can check my profile for pics. My signature I photochopped the HIDs cause I didnt have them yet mine are white but the have a slight blue to them. I do have stock headlights housing and i still luv em. I can see like all the way down the highway.

do you just have the low beam hid?
Yeah

doubt high beams need HID...are you trying to see the next state?
it would be cool to have the highs to but I havent even used my highs since ive gottin HID i would def be a waste.
i was wondering does the hid with jdm projectors give u the bmw effect were while its moving the color seam to change all different colors. ( u can see it if ones behind u at night)

the "color change" is the refraction of the light through the projector eye itself, kind of like a prizm effect seperating the wavelenghts... non projector HID's dont have the same effect.

Car #3: 98 Accord LX- purchased 5/06, totaled 8/06Car #2: 95 Celica GT- purchased 8/03, current daily driverCar #1: 01 Focus ZX3- purchased 5/01, sold 8/03
exactly, it's a projector thing >tongue.gif>

regular lights are basically like a bulb with a magnifying lay around it, then a mirror shaped to shine the magnified light all "forward"
Yes, you do get some refracted light, not much tho. More so than this pic however.

y arente our head lights ideal for HID is it becaue out lens is not clear?? cause can get themm installed for $200
I think it's because our stock USDM headlights would just put out all that bright light everywhere...it'd probably be blinding to oncoming drivers, and the light wouldn't all be reflected where you'd want it to be.

Projectors, on the other hand, have a very sharp beam cutoff that's developed precisely so that it reflects lots of light where you want it, and cuts off the beam pattern so that you don't blind oncoming drivers.

New Toyota project coming soon...
dont you have to open up your housing to install it anyway, cause im sure you just cant put it in the stock bulb housing. if you do open it you could just add some of the reflective crap and change the angle at which the light is sent outward. (just a thought)

hows it taste motha f*cka
People putting HIDs in halogen heads is precisely why they're illegal. You can get a ticket because its easy to tell that the HID is aftermarket. Like Coomer said theres a cut off on the beam on projectors.

And no, you dont open the housing up you must get the same base bulb as the headlamp requires. For projectors you get an H1 bulb, for the USDM heads youd need a 9006.
