Hey guys,

sorry another dumb random question. I spend most of the year in Buffalo, NY and then my summers in New Jersey. Do you think it would be unsafe to install a CAI on my 96 GT? I have been getting mixed reviews.....any advice would help. Also is the preformance aspect of doing a CAI even that much better to risk hydrolocking the engine compared to a short ram? >>

As long as you're not driving through deep puddles(to the point where the puddle touches the intake) you'll be fine. I'd say it's worth it, and I have a cold air intake on my car.

Yea it snows a ****load up here in Buffalo, in fact its snowing right now.....but the roads are always clear when i drive anyways. Did you order yours or custom make it? i saw some other kids that have custom made CAIs.....

I as well did my own custom CAI and it only costed me 20 bucks

i have an cai custom made it looks great and when its cold you will feel alot of diference in the hp of the car but when its realy hot your car will not accelerate very good............... but i thing it's worth it

sounds good....so you guys had no problem with taking in water or anything? urban's CAI looks kinda low and im just afraid that up here in buffalo (where it is rediculously cold) that it might suck up water or snow or something.....is there anywhere else it could mount?

You could mount it a bit higher up or something. Or you could try to make a cold air box where cold air is fed to the box, and the filter is inside the box(which is actually an enclosed area of the engine bay, not a box.)

I have no problems sucking up water, and it's hard to imagine driving through water so deep that my filter submerges.

im going to order a AEM bypass valve just to be safe, but i could seem to find your thread on how to make the CAI for only 20 bucks, i have all the tools and everything i just need some instruc.

cool i got to go to work right now but as soon as i get time ill try and find it for you. all you reall y need is a hack saw lol.

I was planing on getting a bypass as well but decide to wait. I drove in the last rain we had down here in LA (probably not n e thing big in comparision) and had no trouble.

Also keep in mind that a little water wont hurt. Ppl spray water to clean all the time (i forget what its called lol). The issue of hydro lock comes into the pic when the almost all of the filter element is sumbermged in water. This means (for me) a puddle has to bee deep eounght to cover alt least half of the front wheel.

but like stated a 45 aem bypass valve will save you if you do some how run into a puddle that deep. which is why soon ill put one on. Even if here in LA it doesnt rain to hard.

actaully now that i think about itt (stressed for time) all you need is a cai systeme for a 91-93 (i think thats the year) accord (yes and accord lol) All that is needed is to cut a small part of the end off so that way it changes the vector/angle of the piping.

Ill c if i can find the stuff on line (i got mine form pro car parts off of ebay)

I'm not sure how the CAI you are buying is setup but I usuallly convert mine to a SRI for the winter. Otherwise you get a lot of dirt etc coming up through the splash guard and clogging the filter. Just something to consider

LOL i love livin in LA it hardly rains and even when we are on "storm watch 2004" (news hype) it still doesnt rain nearly as hard or long as it does over in other places.
