stripes on sides - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #1966 21 posts Started by sirrahtap
so, i've got the two little pinstripes things on the side of my car and i need to get rid of em. i think i read something not long ago about a couple people that have done that. i'm just wondering how to get em off safely without damaging the paint underneath.

thanks
Well, I think they're just vinyl...so take a hairdryer to them, and peel em' off.
A hair dryer wouldn't mess up the paint, like make it bubble or anything? That would scare me. I had my stripes removed at the body shop when they painted the car.

New Toyota project coming soon...
You can use a sharp razor blade.

=(
I don't know what year your car is but mine is a 94 and my pinstripes were just asking to come off. It still required me to be as gentle as possible, I just used a warm rag and slowly peeled off like a sticker and everytime it snapped had to start again using my nail, wasn't too tough and you can only notice pinstriping was there ever so slightly (cause of the paint fade from the stripes covering up the paint) but I think it looks a lot better now.
I took my red ones off my car the day i bought it, yes red on silver >frown.gif>
Why on earth did they put pinstripes on our cars? Bad hold over from the 80's?

how'd you get em off? just pick at em??
and does it look wierd underneath...like paint underneath is less faded or anything?
i was gonna take mine off the other day while i was taking off my emblems but for some odd reason mine are painted on. >mad.gif> which is really not cool because one side the stripe is blakc and the other its all faded.

I worked at a chevy dealership for about 2 months last summer and they still put pinstripes on nearly every car that comes in to "pro pack" in other words..get them ready to sell..take out all plastic and label and such..on some cars it looked ok..but some...me and another guy made the choice of color and im assuming that there is guys that have no taste at all and put some of these pinstrips on with wierd colors..and we just picked at them with fingers..like we used warm water to help..but that was right after we applyed the pinstripe..over time, I don't know if that would work.
The reason they did this is will piss off any original owner of a pinstriped car. Those pinstipes, I may be over exaggerating a little, but are almost a hundred bucks for each side. The dealership does this to get every little penny out of you. Don't believe me? Go over to your local dealership that has a pinstriped car and look on the dealer price tag list, and look for pinstripe. >rolleyes.gif>
I think they came standard on the 25th aniv. celicas, but maybe the people that first bought my car got screwed and passed along bad info.
Ill just go to the bodyshop and take it out professionally >biggrin.gif>

When i took off my emblems i just used a razor blade and a hair dryer. Then to remove the glue residue i used some tint-off spray i got from walmart and a razor blade. Very easy and clean look afterwards. Should be the same for pin stripes.

Agree....shaved emblems are a lot cleaner.

=(
True!
Plus it's funny lettin people guess what your car is since there are no words on it for them to read. >biggrin.gif>
the shaved emblems def. look better. i left the toyota ones on though, think is would look better without them? any pics of the back with no emblems?
I've always heard that a blowdryer and hot rag would work just fine. There is some stuff though that gets glue and things like that off paint but doesn't hurt the paint at all. I don't remember the name though....I'll look at home and tell you tomorrow. But I think I just got it at the local auto store. It shouldn't be to hard to find!

Shaved emblems are definately better!!! >biggrin.gif>
