i hope you used 3/4" MDF on your box... also deck screws are good, they go in nice and easy.... also dont forget to predrill(use a bit smaller than the screws ofcourse), dont forget the liquidnails or silicone to seal it up! remember... let the box dry before you put the sub(s) in... (i wait 8 hours or let it sit til the next day). and if its cold there keep the box in the garage or some place inside....

Ha Ha, you dont really have to use 3/4. I used 1/2 for both my amp rack and well my second sub box. and its fine. but then again its also coated in fiberglass.

3/4" is most ideal for Most subwoofer boxes. it will not flex, unless alot of pressure is put to it, as you said it also has fiberglass. and for an amp rack yeah 1/2" would be fine. or just about whatever that will hold it fine.

or you can use all f/g?
but i'm using 3/4" for the rings the rest is glass
that board crap weights too much

Yeah it does, all fiberglass is the way to go, any you used 1/2 thats gata be really heavy, I think my box waighs like 6-7 lbs total (empty), its worth the extra time and work.
but for a simple yet affective box, that will work just fiine, good luck, and Post pics.
ya i dont realy care at this point about weight since my car is slow anyways its all good. I would love to post pics but i dont have anythin gto take them with right now, by the end of hte day tho i should have pics posted
i guess you guys are all about looks, if you want max performance from your subs fiberglass isnt the way to go. it will not with stand alot of power like MDF will. but i guess its up to yourself to decide what you want to use..

if its made properly it can withstand just as much
yeah and its usually as this as 3/4 MDF and costs alot more.

Actualy my fiberglass box is far better then my mdf one was, maybe its just my hearing but it sure sounds better.
I used 3/4" MDF with double layers for the front, i get no rattles and its about 100% sealed.
I used MDF board in the front and made a mold of the side of the trunk for the rest.....its came out amasing and sounds great....fg is definatly the way to go
heres the start of it i go tthem nailed and glued now i have to finish the front and silcone the sides and all that then carpet it and should be good

ya ya all the same..haha...oh and also there is going ot be a piece going across the back that wedges the 2 with my amp on it so that the sides will stay agianst the wall..
What if did use nails what would happen?

you dont have aenough cubic capacity in those boxes,if you dont listen to me,try porting them and stuffing the boxes with cotton wool[from insid a pillow] and turn the subs the other way,i made my install in my corsa from 3/4 mdf,but with you boxes being too small 1/2 will be ok but if you subs dont sound that great dont blame the amp, blame the boxes, try them ou before you paint/glass them,im makin my boxes and boot build too,i'll try and send pics of my corsa boot, its the best boot in town i tell thee
oh and mdf my not look as good[depends] but it obsorbs the bass and deepens it a load more than fiber glass, also make a boot floor from mdf to sound proof it more.
-D4W5+Dec 30, 2004 - 1:50 PM
Thats not entirley true. It all depends on the sub your using. Some subs need a lot some need next to none.
Also if u used nails, they will at some point back them selves out. so I would say if you did replace them with screws that will hold.

yeh you need screws, pva works well coz its a rubber like glue and works like the mdf,oh,and it does depend on the sub,but what subs are they using,no point in havin subs unless you kikin out 300+rms,so back to my first point, sorry
-D4W5+Dec 30, 2004 - 8:22 PM
What are u talking about, Subs make a big dif no matter what power. Mine are rated at 400 rms each, but i prolly never use them over maybe 100, and it makes so much dif. even a 200 watt sub would change the whole sound of your system.

W3V2's are Very nice subs. great for SQ and a little SQL, with only a 100rms each you can get great results from them, you do not have to have a subs Full rms to make them reach full performance... SPL subs need that, not SQ and SQL subs, giving a sub its full rms can either be bad or good, depending on how the gainsare set. with only 75rms them W3V2's can reach full excursion...he will be fine..... although the box is a little weird shaped (doesnt matter how a box is shaped as long as it meets the specs) its probably around 1cf. which the subs will do fine in the box, as they said, i hope you didnt use actual nails because the box will soon come apart. use deck screws, they go in real easy and work very well....also pre drill with a bit smaller than the screws.... for sealent use liquid nails or clear silicone.... inverting the subs will not make any difference on the sounds, only the looks.... that will also be dangerous if he puts anything back there... Exile is better off putting them in regular and putting some grills over them to protect them from anything he puts back there. putting cotton in a box makes the subs think the box is really bigger than it is. when you put the subs in the box and you think they need more room, try putting some in.... anyway thats all i got, LaTeR

Incorrect. Fiberglass is very, very strong, especially in curves, and can be made just as strong as MDF boxes with far less thickness(and weight.) >
>
Now if you were making a fiberglass sub box with lots of flat spots, it'd make sense to use MDF in those flat spots(or use rope or something to create curves; Curves = strength with fiberglass.)
And also, you don't need 300 watts RMS for subs. Maybe for something horribly inefficient, but I've had my ears hurting from one of my subs running 150 watts RMS. And that sub wasn't even efficient really. Remember, every time you double the wattage, you're only gaining approximately 3 db of volume.

New Toyota project coming soon...
wimp, i have 2 12" 350 blowin the boot off my corsa, double the wattage, the higher it goes, and the further they hear me cummin, but i hear what your sayin, get it,in the ss2 im still decidin what to get,i fancy vibe space or black air,do you get vibe in the us
ya i got a memphis 150x2 amp to go to it. also it might be alittle small so im going to carpet the inside and have my friend at the audio place hook it up and make it sound perfect.
fiberglass gets stronger with the more layers you put on it, i am a traditional guy and i do not like fiberglass period. ill always stick with 3/4 MDF... just a matter of opinion.
