When I go to get my car, I need to know which type to get. I know there are Hatchback and Coupe versions, perhaps another. I'm not sure. Anyhow, I need help on figuring out which one I need to get. Like, what are the major differences and pros and cons of each. Maybe there are none and only appearance differences. Maybe someone could post pictures pointing them out. What I'm looking for is something that will be most applicable when dealing with body kits and such. Also, I'm pretty sure I'll need to get the GT-backed car because I'll be swapping in the 3S-GTE in a few years. From what I'm told, it already has the mounts. Any help on this would be great. Thanks guys.

Coupe is lighter, stiffer, and slightly longer.
Hatchback is better for sound systems and hauling stuff.
It comes down to personal preference really. I like the coupe but I'm in the minority on that one. I like the look of the taillights more, and it just seems more proportional (minus the high rear bumper). Like I said, personal preference.

Thanks Ghost Dog. I figured it would come down to personal preference, but I just needed someone to point out the main differences. Since I plan on putting in a decent sound system, would the hatchback be best? Also, another question, is the coupe a lift-back type?

Also, I forgot one thing. I'm also looking for one capable of doing a taillight conversion for the cheapest price and easiest amount of work. By the way, thanks for the input Benevolence.
id say coupe or hatch is your prefrence, but just buy a gt, and a manual that way when you decide to swap, your a set up for the 3sgte... >

how to tell the differences:
~hatchback, when poping the trunk your rear window will raise.
~coupe, just the decklid will raise and the window will be stationary.
~theres also a convertable available and if you dont know how to tell if a car is a vert or not please do not bother reading any further. >
>
PRO/CON:
~hatch
pro
better supported by the aftermarket
gives it more of a mini-supra feel
more cargo room
con
slightly heavier than coupe yet lighter than vert
no rear strut support
~coupe
pro
lightest of the 6th gens
decklid acts as a rear strut support giving a slightly stiffer suspension
best car to be the 1st for a curren conversion >
>
con
bodykits are not made specifically for the coupe, must custom fit hatch kits
not too much cargo room
~vert
pro
convertable!
decklid acts as rear strut support same as coupe
con
convertable, bad weather doesnt look to kindly at convertables
the tops have been known to malfunction like any other convertable car
heaviest of the 6th gens
as said before, its all about personal preference, your location, and what you want to do with the car.

I like the look of the hatchback more personally, but you might like how the coupe looks, so it's up to you
In the coupe you can haul groceries and not feel bad abut people seeing them. >

Or you could just use the back seat? :-P I appreciate all the input and information from everyone. Thanks tons, guys and gals(just in case). You guys rock!
I have a hatchback..and personally I like the look better..and it hits alot harder then having a trunk...I have one 12" mtx and more than a couple people have said that it feels like I have 2 12s back there. But basically yeah..what the other guys said...

If you're planning on putting a system in your car, I'd go for a hatch, because there will be no rear deck to rattle and block bass from your subs. Even though I've got a coupe, I still think the hatches look the best.
New Toyota project coming soon...
ya i have a hatch too.. i have 2 jl audio w7s and it is outrageous... the bass is amazing.. like coomer said.. if you are gonna have a system get a hatch..
I like both models! The coupe looks hella clean and simple....the hatch looks like a supra >
>
=(
Check it: BOTH cars look like Supra's (kinda) Ok yeah maybe the hb is a lil bit more, but i gotta coupe and ppl ask me if its a supra - so ur going to get it no matter what u get.
Second, if ur going to mod your car to be faster, quicker, louder, k great. DONT BASE YOUR PURCHASE ON WHETHER OR NOT UR PUTTING A SYSTEM IN IT. Unless thats ALL ur going to do, I would get the car that already has some of the things u'd want to mod, like being lighter, and stiffer. I have a system in my coupe - 2 12'' JL's, granted it is louder and harder in a hatch, but dont think for a min. its not loud ina coupe. I''m quite happy with my system. Finally, theres the whole rear view. Hatch's i have trouble seeing out the back, blind spots are larger cuz the rear pillars are thicker, and the rear window is at a shallow angle, u dont get the greatest view. I like my coupe - i dont like how there are alot of HB's out there, and its more uncommon. Perhaps this was of help, if not i've just wasted time.

ok dude back to the original question...take a picture of each different style...then decide that way...think about how much cargo room you will need... whether you prefer no top, moonroof/sunroof. or no special roof at all...
I personally like the hatchback better.
If you got a coupe you could always do the sweet conversion to your trunk lid and make it a flip lid like all the civics.

Nope. I'm not deciding what car I want on whether I want to put a system in it or not. The main thing for me is just being more versatile with my car. I'll probably go with the hatchback, because exterior-wise, there is just more stuff that can be done with it without dumping a lot of cash to make it custom fitted. Anyways, I appreciate all the help everyone has given. Thanks.
while I like both of the versions, I think the hatch follows the rest of the cars form better and I also second the fact that the hatch is more versatile
