well over here in the states we are quick to say things like thats JDM rice.... so i was wondering if in japan they have a saying for stuff that comes from the U.S. and is used in a tastless manner... is it call USDM wheat ????so somthing else????

They probably just don't drive many American cars over in Japan, how could they not know they make the best cars in the world?
they see american imports as shameful. like i can't believe they souped up the family beater with 90 hp..

Image some guy from another country souping up one of our ford station wagons. Yup.. sad...
I know in the UK they think a lot of American cars are vulgar looking and very simplistic in terms of assembly. They are constantly on about suspension and how American cars can't turn, and rightfully so, because new American cars (the c6 vette i think) have LEAF SPRINGS!!

American cars are a status symbol in Japan, the old muscle cars, and the new SUVs, basically the performance or cream of the crop, just really difficult and expensive to import into Japan, like importing a JDM to the US.

Come on what idiot would import a minivan or a geo metro. geesh!

First off, check out the spec, the new c6 has leaf springs, and furthermore, I've driven the c5 and although it has grunt, it handles like garbage when contrasted to it's european counterparts. The clutch feels like shifting would in a truck, the car can't take corners, it's skittish at the limits and the interior is garbage. It's big fun for kicks and maybe straight line performance, but It simply dosen't handle. I've driven a carrera c4 and an m3 and I can say without doubt they handle much better through corners. Don't speak out of ignorance >wink.gif>

Father had a bmw 330 sport in england heh he took it on the autbahn and got to 155 before the limiter kicked in (first year they had it >frown.gif> bloody 2001's) anyways it handled like a dream where as domestic's umm don't.

... I always thought that when the Japanese want a status symbol they drive German cars... if you think about why our trucks are "popular" over there its because, next to toyota land cruisers and nissan prados, nobody domestic makes a large SUV... old cars really dont count imo, but when it comes to new cars americans are totally outclassed. GM still makes pushrod engines for their cars like its the end of the world... in a technology crazed society like japan, american cars would almost be a joke in terms of how far behind they are...

He's right, the C6 has leaf springs.... but not in the normal sense.

That still won't change the fact that the vette is the best all round performance car on the market today. ESPECIALLY the sub 100k mark. Cornering wise, the vette (motortrend) puts down .96g's on the skid pad. The new Carrera S got .97. With 45 more hp and 105 more lb-ft of torque,,, the vette is the 90k porsches better on any track you can find. in the test I read the vette beat the porsches best time by almost a full second. And we both know that is worse than it sounds.

All this is to say that the vette is a bit better than you are making it out to be. is it as luxurious and refined as a porsche or ferrari? hell no. it's a open road pavement pounding hunk of american muscle. It's designed for wide open spaces,not back roads. That said... I had a 86 Corvette targa top. It would outhandle my cousins 03(I think) BMW 330ci any day, And it was a HELL of a lot faster on the highway.

i would assume that the Japanese would like the more famous American sports cars made today such as the Viper, Vette, and Mustang. When Millen brought out his GTO to the D1 races, all the Japanese guys were really happy to see it and said in an interview that they would love to see vettes, vipers, and mustangs on the track as well.

From what i hear about Japanese culture from people who have lived there for a while, is that the Japanese are obsessed with American Culture and everything american. I bet this applies to cars as well. Mostly likely more classic iconic cars such as the gt40, stingray vettes, and shelbys.

One more note, ive heard that some Japanese tuners are doing exactly the opposite of what we do here. We try to make our cars look JDM, where they try and make thier cars look USDM. Such as putting the quad lights on an integra. If only there was some sort of parts exchange program...

yup, sad but true. in some sense they think our rice is cool, you know all that fast and furious stuff, while on the flip side initial-d is considered rice over there.

as for american cars. if you import a pos over there its still just that but they have a lot of respect for luxury cruisers like our cadillacs and lincolns. mostly I think its a matter of rarity because japanese/european cars are so dime a dozen over there.
