Common 6th gen problems - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #20325 30 posts Started by CoSo
It's been awhile since I posted here, but as always, 6gc.net is a great place to be. >biggrin.gif>

I think I'm into my 7th or 8th month of searching for a Celica, and have certainly let a few good ones by. (Two that come to mind are a '94 GT-FOUR with 226k km on the clock for the price of a normal celica, and a white '98 SX with 19 000 km on the clock).

Anyways, I was wondering if there was any common or recurring faults on the 6th gen that I should look out for? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Honestly, No. I havent come across a recurring problem in everyones Celica.

And how dare you allow an ST205 to slip through your fingers. Sinner.

the starter is pretty common. Other than that, no much else just normal wear and tear (brakes, tires, ect.)

Only thing i can think of would be burning oil, most cars do, but seems the celi burns a lil more.
yeah ive had quite the problem with burning oil myself! ooh it was bad when it was coming thru my gt4 vent and on to my windshield! :-(

Cruisin down the street in my Infiniti...always lookin for my next trip to Sin City
i've had reaccuring events with my power steering... or that just might be me? and a few other small problems. no oil burn yet

the 1/4 doesnt have patience for a ST.... so we make them ST-T's so atleast we'll sound good going slow.
power steering squeal when cold out. it's annoying and it makes you feel ghetto when it happens infront of a hottie.
every car burns oil when it gets old... i think it is more so with all toyota's though
some sensor for the cruise control too. turn on the cruise and the light just blinks...

ST205 has a couple of things you need to beware of.

Check my webpage for details.

I would recommend getting a bottle of Advil ready if you do so.

hehe, jk. Nice ride though.

If you have oil coming out your vent you probably have a leak somewhere, I doubt your burning it.

I thought I was burning oil but it ended up I had the front main seal leaking, as well as the rear main seal. Now I go through almost no oil at all.
the antennae motor isnt that good. makes ur antennae stick up.

YoungSurvival.Org-Celica traded for.. 350z.. traded for Mazda5.. soccer mom!
Actually I think the biggest problem that most celica owners here complain about is it just isn't fast enough >biggrin.gif>

Amen
Other than that and the burning oil with high miles thats it. Toyotas are very well built cars over all. There just not powerhouses.

i had bad antenna problems when i bought mine, i just disconnect the piece of crap.. now i'm good to go!
If yur gettin a convertible....

This is what happened to mine, and I've talked to a few others who had this problem aswell, but the switches that bing down the back windows loose power and wont work.. Soemthin like that... Not quite too sure....

AS far as burning oil... my car desn't burn a whole heck of a lot... It actually burns real clean too. REAL clean... Its kinda crazy how clean the oil is in my celica >tongue.gif>

Also another prolblem that might be comon is the antenna... Mine gets all pissy and will make a buncha noise at me...

Then I have no clue if this is common... But the CV-joint... (basically an axel) Somethins up with mine, but imnot too sure if its common or not...

BUt those are basic problems tat i got... Other than that, the Celica is all good >biggrin.gif>

Umm yeah the antenna is a big problem haha.. mines either stuck down or stuck half way up. Other then that i have to say that iv never experienced any oil burning problems
alot of problems it seems with 02 sensors
for me its seems to be like most of u guys teh buring of the oil i have to at least use 2 bottoles of oil b4 i even have to change the oil again...this is using synthetic...also my car soemtiems shakes at idle liks deptending on the wheather this happens mosly during teh cold
Mine doesn't burn oil as far as i can tell, does tend to get through it though (probably more my driving than anything >tongue.gif> ) Antenna is fine, a little wd40 doesnt go amiss tho. BUT i do get a real nasty squeel when i fire it up in the mornings and go full lock to get off my driveway. Heard this is probably the power steering, anyone know how to silence this cos it is kinda embarrassing, makes your car sound like an old banger, just cant have that!! How about fitting a new power steering belt? Other than that, these are sound cars and you could do far worse!!
You can't do anything about it. The sound is created by valve's inside the pump.
Only problem I've seen so far (20000Km) front brakes (pistons) jam once in a while.
CV joints are gonna be a common problem in all front wheel drive cars. I've replaced both of mine they were both factory, at about 110k miles. Just after awhile the rubber gets old and rips easy.
havent read the whole thread .. but one problme most everyone seams to have..one GT's ... Holding idle on cold starts..

[TeamNJCT
Most common problem was CV joints, which is an easy fix though, on my 6gc and 5gc they have been changed, also the starter is acting up, and the cold start on the power steering that happens to the 6gc too. and the worste problem of all, its hard to do your business in the backseat, not too big >biggrin.gif>
