Winter problem - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #20419 12 posts Started by HaRv3sTeR
In winter, if I start the car and dont let it run for 15min (minimum) before driving it. Sometime, the car dies when Im about to go. I know it's not good for the car to drive it when the engine is still cold but my case is not normal because sometime it does that even I waited like 10-15min. My battery is 1 year old (1000 ampere)...spark plugs are 6 month olds...dont have any 'Check Engine' light in the dash...I wonder if it can be the wiring (because I didnt changed it since I have my car). What do you guys think? >confused.gif>

TIA for your help
could be your gas lines have a little water and its freezing, add some drygas see if that helps.

15mins is alot tho. Usually I leave it for 5.

thx...ive tried that this morning...ill let u know if it helps
if your car takes that lone to warm up you might want to look at the thermostat

actually i just saw that you live in canada, do you have to use a block heater up there?

Yea id say it may be water in your gas lines freezing up.

By the way...this post belongs in Engine/Transmission/Performance or General Discussion; Not Interior/Audio/Electrical/Wiring >wink.gif>

sorry...i posted this in here because at the first time...I tough the problem might be a bad wiring or a short in it ....moderators can move it I dont care
firstly they should ticket you for letting a car idle for 10 to 15 minutes before not driving it. All you are doing by idling a car is wasting gas, and money, you really aren't stressing your engine much more than starting it and driving off. The best way to warm a car up is to drive it. You could idle a car for 10 to 15 minutes and not have the engine temp indicator move, or you could drive it for less than 5 minutes and see the indicator move. In regards to your problem, not sure but I use to drive a volvo that stalled when it was cold and put into reverse bacing out of the garage, unless you kept the revs up. Doubt its water in your gas line, since the local stations often have winter gas... but you could try another gas station, and or a different blend.
i idle my car for 10 mins and the gauge is almost up to the normal spot. even if its 20 degrees out
Have you checked your transmission fluid? It does go through the torque converter, ya know.. Otherthan that, you can always try popping off the vacuum tube to your IAC, so it idles at 1500RPMs.. >tongue.gif>
I start my car (it's been 8 degree's around here lately) and while sitting in it, i manage my books and whatever else around, and wait for the rpm's to move down from 2000 rpms (full choke in the temp.) Then i drive away, ****ing before 2500 rpms, that's the way to do it

The most important lesson I learned from Karate-Dô Kyôshan–“You can not be what you do not believe you are”
I wait a full minute or 2, then drive.. I shift before 2000 RPM's though..Then again, the cold isn't that bad compared to other places..
