I have 8 small blue neons which I am planning on fixing in the footwells and door pockets. I have run a cable with an inline fuse holder (10A) to a switch in my glove box. When I tested these with one of the neons I blew the fuse. I am rubbish at electronics and am hoping someone can tell me how to get this right! PLEASE!!! When I wired all 8 thru the cigarette lighter they were all pretty dim hence I went for the battery direct method.

Somebody save me before I blow a fuse!!

well try and wire it with a relay and a higher amperage fuse. also, make sure that the lights are wired in parralel not series.

Try it with more than one neon; you have to have a load on the circuit or else the fuse will blow. make sure the neons are on before u flip the switch

i wired 4 neons on the inside, 2 stobes and 2 fender neons to my cigarrete lighter no fuse
its fine

but here go to pepboys

they have this plug in box you can get a 4 device box
you can plug 4 wires into the box and it has 2 main wires that go to a power source
and you'll be fine i'll look for a pic in a sec..

ok, tonight i tried my luck again, i used the 25amp fuse from my amp in place of the previous ten amp fuse that burnt out. I hooked it up to all 8 led neons via the switch and fuse to the battery. I had the negative feeds from the led's and the swith fed directly back to the battery. all seemed great for about 2 seconds til something smelt bad followed by a bad smell, then several of the neons caught fire and i was forced to throw them out the door in fear of them setting the carpet on fire!! I don't quite know the extent of the damage to the lights but guessing its not good. I think the setup was fine but that the fuse was to higher amperage! Kinda scared to try again as im not having much luck here, but if you guys recon that i should try again with a smaller fuse (and promise that it wont eventually set fire to my car) then i guess i could try again!!

I did the same thing player did.....buy neons that plug into your gig lighter (fyi they have fauses in the lighter attachment so its safe).....then buy a 4-way adapter and just run the wires and hide them under your seat or where-ever you want....... i got my 4-way at wall mart for like 5 bucks and i just cut the end off and spliced those into a 12V source ( like the back of your cig lighter)......plus then you can wire them to a cool switch )also got at wallmart)

I just finally got around to wiring my neons properly (Not just on a 2 way adapter in the cigi lighter). I was worried about it but in the end it was real easy and worked first time. here is what I did. I didnt want to splice into the power for the cigi lighter so I ran a pwoer line from the Battery, I also used the crimp clips as well, so It would all be done properly, anyways here is what I did

I went and got some 10Amp wire (roll or red and one of black)and a 10 amp fuse , also bought a pack of wire crimp clips, a test pencil and the wire cutting/crimp tool. Also have 2 blue neons, and a normal-non lighted swtich.

Ok so first I run a wire from the battery to a inline fuse(10amp), close to the battery, then contunie the wire through the firewall down to the on side of the switch. Then, cause I found it eaiser, I ran a black wire (ground) from the engine bay ground, through the firewall to under the dash. Now get your neons, and find the positive side (probably red) and then splice the 2 red wires from each neon together and run that to the other side of the switch. then join the 2 black wires from the neons to the black ground wire and join them together.Then switch them on and it should work.

If it done make sence I can try walking you through it with MSN or something. Hope this helps

sounds identical to the setup i have, except i have an illuminating toggle switch. I guess i can put my problems down to using the 25amp fuse. I used chunky copper speaker cable for the negative leads on the system as its all i had to hand, surely this wouldn't cause the problems? I will get round to trying again with a ten amp fuse maybe even five. The bulbs are tiny and were cheap, i was going to use quantity to create the effect rather than quality >> . will let you know how it goes next time, unless i get blown up in the process!!

don't get me wrong here but i didn't rice it like that
mine is all direct connected to the battery and then switches...

i was saying not to get the 4 port cigy thing thats kinda ricey
ok if you look at your home stereo look where the speakers run into the main box there are places where you push lil tabs up and slide in the wire....
its a box of these
one is power one is ground you cut the ciggy lighter part off
and connect the 2 individual wires in to ports like those on a box^^
that sits INSIDE your dash board
this box has a switch on it so that you can turn the box on and off thus lights on and off
there are two 6 gauge wires coming out of the box that power the box one is for power and one is for ground i by NO MEANS used a 1 to 4 ciggy lighter

I took nyquil and honestly I cant read the whole thread right now, but for gods sake use a 12 v fuse! run it strait from the battery thats what I did and built a switchbox inside. Good luck!
