Carbon Fiber - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #20736 21 posts Started by spunky393
Carbon fiber is stronger and lighter than what our hoods, doors, and hatches are made out of right now, correct? well, someone with money, could they make full carbon fiber doors, hoods, hatch covers, bumpers, side skirts, mirrors, etc.

The most important lesson I learned from Karate-Dô Kyôshan–“You can not be what you do not believe you are”
I'm not sure what 'understandence' >wink.gif> means but yeah carbon fiber is lighter and stronger than what our cars of made of (metal, urethane plastic composite). unfortunately its pretty difficult to work with besides doing basic stuff like overlays. making complex parts means vaccum bagging which requires expensive equipment and plenty of labor.
^^exactly
to get a part made in complete CF is a huge pain...and very $$$

actually, i do believe some plane and many NASA parts are made of CF
Not many people would do a one-shot large size carbon fibre piece.
If you want it to be good you have to layer it an autoclave it and do all sorts of fun stuff. Takes practice and lots of money.
If you get an autoclave off ebay let me know and I'll come play.
and to answer your question - yes its possible to have a full CF car.

Like the CF Evo VIII or the F1.

i love how F1's suspensions members are sometimes made of CF

i dont know the F1 suspension that well, but ...arrr, i'm blankng on the name of the part
makes a V at the wheel, the two bars connect at the wheel...anyways, that's made in CF >smile.gif>
how much lighter would a cf celi be compared to a normal one?
"my understandence"

I believe he meant to say "my understanding" hehe

A lot.
^lol

for an idea compare the weight of a Austin Martin Vanquish to the Toyota Volta >wink.gif>
i believe it's the volta that's panels are all CF, and i wrong?
the new boeing 7e7 dreamliner is made of carbon fiber composites but not complete carbon fiber.
stock celica 2600lbs
carbon fiber celica 1000lbs
There is a company who produces a complete "Supra" Kit out of 'CF. 3 Colours are available... Well maybe i will find the link.

For our 6gen. Celicas you can already have

CF wings (just look around: c-one.....)

and CF doors ;-) Inside outside

It is! And that is why its so much harder to build in traditional sections, and thus why it has to be built and shipped in very large sections, and why they are designing another plane designed specifically to to ship the peices of the 7E7 from Japan.

Now think about the trouble it would make for a car...

p.s. 'understandance' isnt a real word

Its Orville's Celica, i just drive it...
WOW, good find man!!!

I thought already about buying from there,. But at the moment i really need to save money first. I have to get my babe repaired and i ordered some nice toys from japan.

But if the groupbuy would be not before august i would be in for the inside CF doors.
