i was talking to TTE about his Koni inserts and he mentioned that any 97-99 celica cant use inserts. you have to either get the whole shock assembly from toyota or buy some used 94-95 ones. anyone know if this is 100% true? tirerack.com seems to think that i can use inserts on a 98 without problems.

No reason why not... unless Toyota somehow totally changed the strut casing design and welded everything shut or changed the size or something. Seems unlikely to me because KYB inserts fit all of the models...

Lagos, I think they might be refering to the wielding problems everyone runs into?

had removable inserts on mine, Just couldnt pop the nut off the strut housing.

And what welding problems? Why or what would you need to weld when changing the inserts?

Everybody that has sport package from the factory can't reuse them. I tried it on my so I cut, welded and at the end it was total disaster so I went to junkyard and bought regular ones without sport package and it was direct drop in.

The same is true for the front convertible struts. I replaced mine with the regular OEM so I can just use the inserts if there is a next time.

i remeber talking to andre about that back in the summer.. when they inserted the inserts.. they cut the top nut off and had to weld the top back on..... all modle years us the same part number for the strut housing.... US- Modles ..

How do you tell if you have the sport suspension?

1 check VIN# at the dealer or
2 Check if your shocks have nut or sealed(sealed - sport susp)
3 I think it was available only to 98-99 GT

where is the nut located? is it something i can see without taking the suspension out?

look thorught the spring and mover the boot... and you'll see it right at the bottome of there the sturt rod going into the strut housing...
