Well, I have reached the end of my patience with this engine and basicaly the car itself. I spent close to a year driving it around with the fuel cut, and as soon as I spend $1500 to get the wiring fixed more **** keeps happening. Such as me needed a new afm, my axcel breaking, some new sputtering that started the other day, the exhaust leak no one can seem to fix for longer then 3 days, and not to mention the car being overdue for a smog by a year. So I quit, I dont know if I am going to sell the car or keep it for awhile... Maybe I will do what K2 did and get an MR2 turbo.

As for the engine, its going to shid. I guess were doing a straight trade, which totally sucks after spending like 10k on this swap business. But atleast it will have a good home, if shid can tame the mean spirit My car leaves behind.
damn that sucks.

if i ever do a swap, i would go with a megasquirt setup, avoid all the wiring related issues

sorry to hear youve had so many problems. I guess its just a warning to others that the 3s swap is not an easy task. Good luck to Sean with the engine.

please elaborate...
why it was the best:
most fun car ive ever driven
consistantly continues to amaze me as to the limits of it
t-tops are the shiznit >smile.gif>
turbo is likewise... the shiznit >tongue.gif>
2 seater means i dont gotta drive my friends everywhere
competitive to race even in stock form

why it was the worst:
its a very tempramental car and i baby it as such, which means i dont even drive it in the rain lol
ive had my fair share of problems with it, upkeep is pretty expensive, thank god theres something called the MR2OC which you can buy anything and everything through
going through 2 winters with a 93 eclipse that doesnt have a working heater, is automatic, and stalls out isnt the most fun thing to do for 6 months out of the year.

I hate to hear that. Are you guys doing a straight swap? What would you recommend for somebody like me, who would be happy with just 200hp. Turbo my 5sfe? I can't really afford any downtime, Cuz i work the 6 day week thing, and I don't drive my bike to often.

Even when adding a turbo? i can't do it in a 3-4 day weekend? Do I need dyno time?
Well **** - Is it a typical thing for the swap to be so much trouble? i was planning on doing the 3s-gte swap right when i got my new celica... but i will be on a sever budget afterwards.. and will not be able to afford continuous breakdowns.. so.. Did you just get a bad engine or?? cause im really hoping to get the 3s-gte and make the celica fast as **** =)

the swaps running now.. the fuel cut issue, etc, all of that has been fixed. But he needs a new AFM, and he still can't pass smog- so he can't drive the car.

AFM's suck. big restriction and they are $$$ to replace

maybe you should consider what mk3 supra owners and dsm owners do, a MAF-T conversion.

let me know if you need help swapping in that thing, i prolly would be able to help on a weekend.

actually that is a very common misconception, there is data one of the MR2 vendors collected where they did bench flow testing on the factory AFM unit vs. the streight pipe associated with a MAF system and the differences are negledgable, only in extreme HP cases is the conversion a necisity, or even recommended for the ammount the conversion costs.

lol ya, the thing looks like a friggen 6cm square hole... but for some reason the same CFM can get sucked through it... go figure.

I agree that AFMs suck. I'd be running four velocity stacks if it weren't for my stupid ugly AFM. >tongue.gif>

If you want to convert to Megasquirt and give one last try at getting it running right, I know someone selling a new perfectly-working unit that he assembled for $200.

The car was running right, I have no idea what the sputtering was/is... Maybe timing, maybe distributer.... But I cant even get it properly timed without a new AFM. And smog is a big issue... As of right this second Im keeping it, cause it would be a straight trade to shid, and I would be losing way to much on everything. As soon as I get an AFM I will take it over to a shop to get the sputtering checked, and im gona pull off the distributer and see if its ok... Everyone is telling me not to give up and I dont think I should.

Even then I will most likely get her running good and still sell it.
