I made a custom shift cover/boot to go with the 7gc short shifter I put in. I like seeing the shifter so I tried to cover as little of it as possible. I like it so far, tell me what you guys think.

seriously, how much shorter is the 7gc short shifter compared to our stock shifter ? it looks a little high...is it smooth to shift ?

Haha, I dont expect many people to like it since a lot of people are into newer or somewhat newer style cars. I prefer muscle cars myself, but they just arent practical for day to day commuting. I would say the 7gc short shifter is about 2 inches shorter than the stock shifter. The shift is very noticeably shorter and is smoother too, plust its only about $40 shipped off ebay so its not a bad deal at all. It just seems kind of high in the pics i have because of that knob. Here's a pic of the stock knob on it.

Is it an actual 7th gen quick shifter? or is it the stock 7th gen shifter?

Not much work was required to get the 7gc short shifter in. It took longer for me because I took the stock amp out while i did it. Just follow the how to Coomer posted up for installing the TRD short shifter to get the assembly out and then after you get it out, follow the how to on how to swap the shifter out with the new one, and put it all back together. The only other thing you would have to do is cut a piece of the shifter assembly. I suggest you do this before you put the assembly back in, otherwise you'll have to take it back out to cut it, or be too lazy to take it out like me and saw it off while its in there. You need to cut this because that piece of plastic is pushing up on the centered shift cable and makes the shifting stiff. I took one of the pics from Coomer's how to article and circled the piece in red. Also you'll want to take out the stock rubber spacers that's on the assembly as well because the new short shifter should come with spacers. After you put everything back in and hook it all back up, you should notice a much shorter shift. And yes, it is a short shifter made for the 7gc, not the stock 7gc shifter. i like that shift cover. but it only goes good with the ball knob not the other knob.

nice job customizing that. its not really my style but well done nonetheless. also could you elaborate on the plastic part pushing up on the shifter cable? I didn't even notice it when I put in my shortshifter; does it make a huge difference?

Thanks, and I dont know what short shifter you have in there, but I think the ones that are actually made for the 6gc like the TWM or TRD ones don't require cutting the piece, not sure though. If you have a 7gc short shifter like me, it doesn't make a huge difference, but before I cut it, shifting was stiffer, especially into 2nd gear. If you have the time, I'd suggest cutting it out because it def. makes the shifts smoother.

Also, I agree with juBz86 about the knob, I always wanted that TRD knob and got it since I was making that cover. For anyone interested, I got it off http://www.brandsport.com/ , only $24 and free shipping on an order of $25 and over, much cheaper than I saw it for on Ebay.

Yes that was the same thing I figure out awhile ago about the "lancer short shifter" I put in. Those two plastic peaces after the clip hold the linkage stright, which then cause the metal/cable to bend when going into 2nd 4th an R. You need to cut both strings of plastic going underneth the cable so it flexs down a lil after the clip.

If you go with the 7th gen, it comes with everything, and requires no grinding. but is $10 more an dosnt come with a ****erball

If you go with the lancer/evo, you need to goto the hardware store and get bolts an spacers, and grind down the two balls a lil to fit. but its $10 cheaper and comes with an I think awsome chrome ball handle.
