It's been covered in the past, and a search will turn up more info, but basically, it's worthless.

Seen this cr@p so many times on so many different forums. And it always gets the same response. I can't understand why on earth people fall for the marketing blurb and buy them (sorry Drew-877, no disrespect intended). They are the biggest waste of money ever and have no hope whatsoever of working. Money would be far better spent on alternative, proven products.

i'll totally agree with them. i personally think it's crap. if you are really considering ESC (electric supercharger), i'll recommend thomas knight ESC. they are more professional in stuff like this... but what i don't like about these is they act some how like a NOS? ya gotta hit on a switch to activate it and stuff... which that much electricity circulating, god knows what will happen lol.. >biggrin.gif>

I dont have one. I just see them on ebay and I was curious about them. I never seen anyone with one and I was wondering why. I was MAYBE considering getting one but before I did I wanted to get everyones opinion. SO dont be mean to me. >frown.gif> IM just a newbie in game. I dont know that much about cars yet. the ebay electirc superchargers are crap!! The amount of power that can be delivered by your battery or alternator without a larger transformer is no where near enough to spin a compressor to a resonalbe, sustainable speed to provide positive pressure.

Shin is right, that the only electric spercharger that is proven sort of acts like nitrous, as its a one shot deal. You press a button and it activates the supercharger. But this only lasts for a few seconds, as the power drain is enormous and thus can only be sustained for only so long. Its battery will recharge over time, but not soon enough to use it in the same run, or a run thats within the hour.

okay... so this centrifugal electric blower flows 1200 CFM of air (which is pretty damn impressive i might add)

on a 3sgte motor say you want to run a standard 13 PSI, you would need to be running 431 CFM with a 1.88 pressure ratio at 7200 RPMs... this means you need to be running 431 CFM @ 1.88X the atmospheric pressure. at 26 PSI you are still only at 634 CFM with a 2.77 Pressure ratio.

so whats it all ammount to, well you really have no clue what this electrical unit is capable of. obviously its max 1200CFM is BEYOND overkill for any application we would be using it for, so when a fan wants to push more air and isnt allowed to, it has alot of restriction on it, which causes alot of current draw from your battery, and causes the fan to heat up and possably burn up. i can also almost guarantee you will feel alot of power surging because it's fan speed will be limited by nothing other than the resistance put on it by the air since there is no VFD controller on it (just an on/off toggle switch as described in the ebay posting), so it really depends what kind of static pressure the unit is capable of holding, alot of this "they dont do anything, they are just a fan" is true because they are not capable of holding that pressurized air like a turbo or true centerfugal supercharger is designed for, these electric units usually are not intended for use in high static pressure applications, usually they are just use for circulation where there is little restriction, not an application where when the throttlebody closes, the entire system is 100% blocked. id be interested to see what kind of pressure drop they are able to hold across the fan, but i still think for the other reasons mentioned they aren't quite capable of being used for this type of application yet.

If they are so good, then why do you not need to change your ECU? I mean, a n/a car's ECU won't be able to sense boost - obviously just vacuum. Add forced induction and when you hit positive pressure, how is the ECU going to cope? No mapping etc for ignition, fuel etc. Engine would detonate like mad and not run properly at all. If anything, it'll probably screw up the pistons big time.
It is for this reason alone that shows these fans to be a pointless waste of money.

well to get one to work properly you would need to retune your vehicle same as adding any forced induction product onto a vehicle, but you also need to reevaluate your onboard electrical systems, if the fan was made with a high pressure ratio in mind the amperage draw from it would be huge... thought needs to be put into an elecrical unit same as any other form of FI system... this is why you do see proven results of these sometimes from companys who have put real thought into actually developing one, now i highly doubt you will see one of these developed kits fly through ebay, but it can be done and it is out there, but its much more than sticking a fan into your intake and running the power and ground to your battery, i have yet to see one with a proper VFD, now that would be sweet... you can set up the parameters so that the VFD speeds up and slows down the fan depending on throttle position and it would work much like a supercharger, only using an electric draw instead of mechanical draw... i dont know if this has been done yet or not, but thats actually a pretty damn good idea...

all of the electric superchargers on ebay are crap.....however the e-ram electric supercharger is a decent mod. it will produce up to 2 psi for about a true 20+ hp gain for around $600..not to bad.. also there is the Thomas Kinght electric turbo that will give you a great deal HP gain at 6psi. .. however this system has many down sides to it.....only last for 15 seconds at a time and uses alot of battery power >frown.gif>...........just save for a real turbo kit,, well worth the money, just dont blow your engine..lol.

I got one, I never hooked it up though. I do believe in ram air. the claims of 20+hp are crap. Mine gave me 100hp >wink.gif>
Besides there is no such thing as centrifugal force...anyone with any type of physics knowledge, which would be necessary to build an effective electric supercharger, would know that centrifugal force isn't an actual force. Anyways, not necessary to go into more on that, just know that if you plan to buy an electric device such as this, it needs to be purchased from a reputable company that shows you actual data of the hp yields, otherwise it's not worth even thinking about. Don't touch the things! My mate brought the E-Ram Supercharger kit for his Honda Prelude. It creates a flat spot on the throttle when it activates. The thing only works on full throttle so you don't even know when the dam thing is on
I used a computer fan and it was wayyy cheaper and i got like 14 psi.

my friend has a 1986 crown vicotria with a v8, LOL! anyway, eh actually did connect his leaf blower to the intake...one problem...it was electric. lol. we got a power inverter that would hopefully be able to handle the high voltage demands of the blower. needless to say it didn't work. the blower itself would boost up to 4 lbs tho. we placed 4 lb. of weight on it, stabilized it, and turned the blower on -- it floated.

so now we are working on getting a gas powered blower.
