Ferrari style shifter plate - 6G Celicas Forums

Hey, I was curious if anyone had suggestions on making a plate like this:

I figured just take the boot off and measure all the clearances, draw it on some paper or cardboard then cut it out and lay it over the shifter to make sure the clearances are right before milling it in my college's shop. Any recommendations on shifter levers and knobs, or other general comments/suggestions?

That would look pretty hot. I guess that is the way to go, just measure and cut. The thing you will want to consider is the there is no where for you to crew your fabricsted plate into. You will have to make brackets that connect some where under the console. The bezzel that holds the shift boot just snaps out, it's not solid enouph to mount the aluminum plate to. You would have to measure the opening in the bezzel(which ins't exactly level keep in mind) and may be make some brackets that goe down and mount to the body some where. You could connect the brackets to the 4 screws in the corners of your plate, and still keep the cool look of the screws holding it down. you would want a slight amount of bend to your plate because the bezzel isn't level, but if you take your time and get the exact results you want the first time then I think you will find it more than worth your while. Keep us in touch, I would love seeing pics complete and progress.

Absolutely! I was going to make a cardboad pattern and pass the ideal to Doggy to see if he would manufacture it. the lambos have a nice one too. I have even seen fake ones for automatics.

Why not try yourself.. any thing doggy can do, you can do too.. just practice..

I have tried.. but it seemed that the gear shifting was to close, and all you come out with is a lil box..

i dont think it will work. the shifter doesnt move that far to fit in slots like that. all u would have is plate with a circle in the center. maybe really far up on the shifter it moves far away enough to fit slots. but down low where the leather boot is i dont think it will work. try it out though.

Well Doug,
You know i do all my custom work myself, Doggy is the manufacturer for stuff on this site, and hes starting his company. I personally dont have time to make parts for people, and believe me I get asked all the time.

Yea, I agree. When I made my custom shift cover, I noticed how small of an area the shifter moves. I'm sure you could do it, but it wouldn't look like the ferrari one and def. won't last very long.
