Loud when driving - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #22844 21 posts Started by CJOHNST3
OK - so I'm 38 and driving a car usually known to be driven by those a lot younger - whatever.

Most of my friends own BMWs or other more luxury vehicles. I'm not impressed nor do I care.......but, I do know that my car is loud. I have the hands free on my cell phone, everyone tells me I sound like I'm in a wind tunnel. It's not the phone, it's the car. OK, the Injen Intake a 3" catback exhaust add to a real nice sound, but it's killer when I'm trying to talk and listen on the phone. Anyone have a similar problem? Anyone else solve it?

In the olden days, OK showing my age again, like when I bought my first New Celi - 1991 - they put on Undercoating - it was an option and it made a big difference.

Not avail now and I can't seem to find a solution -anyone?
look around for something called dynamat. its sound proofing stuff for cars. you can buy it on ebay and it should help out with the road noise.

15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned
Dynamat actually doesn't help much to reduce road noise...it's a lot better for making panels rattle a lot less. A foam such as ensolite works much better...if you put some under your carpet and then spray the underside of your car and your inner fender wells with rubberized undercoating, that should make a difference.

But really, the best solution will probably be to get an exhaust system that sounds like it's stock.

New Toyota project coming soon...
my stock exhaust sounds crazy, i donno y, but its sooo smooth
anyone know if they had an exhaust option for the 7afe 1994 hatch?? >confused.gif>
i'd also check the door seals next to the window...weather strips?

anyways, they can wear and allow wing to fly in.
mine is really loud too, coming from the engine bay, and all i have is an intake. it seems whenever im going over 75, or if the engines around 4k rpm or more, its halfway deafening. i have to turn my stereo up even louder to hear it, and i sometimes end up with a headache after long trips. makes me want to put my stock intake back on.

Mine is the same way except I don't have an intake or anything at all. I couldn't believe how loud the thing became at 4k RPM.
maybe its just now because you're running heavy-duty winter tires???
Winter tires have a huge effect on sound. When I switched from my Z rated goodyears to the studded snow tires, it sucked. But our cars are going to be loud anyway. Car and Drivers biggest problem with the car was it was loud, talking about engine and exhaust. Rhyno line the bottem of the car. <- I'm just guessing with this idea, any one think this would actually work though?

mine is very loud. Turbocharged it wasnt that loud, but now with it off it is annoyingly loud. I always have people looking at me. I now just have an intake and exhaust. I do have a leak in my exhaust though. I wonder if that is contributing to it?

yeah i got an exhaust and air intake, its actually really quiet only till i stomp on it. but i just ordering a header (along with rims and tires and coilovers, shh u never heard >tongue.gif>) but yeah alot of ppl look at our cars cuz its sexy... take it as it goes.

the 1/4 doesnt have patience for a ST.... so we make them ST-T's so atleast we'll sound good going slow.
ooo i like your car too...

i am awesome
Do they make silencers for your exhaust system? That might help with the exhaust noise level issue..
well... silencers might not really help that much... i have a 2.5" straight pipe with tanabe medalion racing muffler and have a silencer in it.... popos still pulled me over saying it was loud.... >mad.gif>

my question is why do you have 3" exhaust on so a low output engine?
Actually - I took it to Meineke after I was rearended. Insurance was willing to pay me 400 bucks for a stock new Toyota Muffler. I thought, for 400 bucks I can get the whole cat back replaced with a new Stainless stell muffler. So I did. It was a surprise to me it was replaced with a 3" pipe. I didn't ask for it. Now that I have the Injen intake on it, it sounds very cool, but there is no way to make a phone call while your driving, you have to scream.

Anyone try coating the wheel wells or underside with success? Would love to hear!
Loud?

I have 3 mechanical diffs, a HKS induction kit, no catalyst and a 3" pipe. The suspension is rock hard, all the bushes are poly rather than rubber and she rolls on 40 profile performance tyres.

Loud is relative.....

JDM ST205Blitz Spec NUR Exhaust, somewhere over $1000Needing another one 18000 miles later, bloody annoying.
I remember Ricky coated his wheel wells. try a search

finally

my WRX has full 3 inch exhaust, and it right at the threshold of being too loud.

i can only imaging a NA 4cyl with 3 inch.

3inch exhaust is probably your problem, next time try throwing the car in neutral and see how loud it is.
