do i need to change my plugs/wires? - 6G Celicas Forums

Today, while accelerating, my car started to 'stutter' a little bit. It was kind of odd. Then it started to do it repeatedly everytime I'd accelerate moderately hard. Would this be a fouled out plug? Is this a normal symptom of having to change plugs? The car has 89k miles on it and I dont know if the previous owner ever got them changed.. Should I replace the wires as well? How much am I looking at spending? I really hate to do this since I'm swapping in the 3S, but it is my only car and I need it running until the day of the swap!

Sounds like some bad gas to me. I'd replace everything anyway though. But that's just the way I do things. Better to fix it before it breaks than to get stranded somewere, or have your car all screwed up.

change the spark plugs, dist cap and rotor. all those are cheap . if the problem continues, then do the wires.

could be a O2 sensor too, bad air to fuel mix.

LewFX, if it was the o2 sensor,then it would throw a check engine light.

mine never did, and that was replaced at my local toyota dealership

How much am I looking to spend on plugs, cap and a rotor?

I doubt it'd be bad gas...I filled up today and the problem continued... I also have no check engine light on..

Mine did that to when i first got it, but it as an extemely dirty air filter

lagos I had an O2 sensor that wasnt' connected, it does not turn on the check engine light. Turst me on that.

cheap - easy way to check the wires is to find a really dark spot at night and check for arcing along the wires, mist a little water over them from a spray bottle, if they are leaking voltage, you'll see it. another symptom of bad wires is hard starting when damp out. you can sometimes make them last a little longer by cleaning the wires off.
