Finaly my site is up - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #23670 12 posts Started by creis
My site is now up, I don’t have a domain name yet so if you want see it you have to type the ip 97.171.10.94 its hosted off my server that I just finished building/loading, its running Windows Server 2003 (I was gana go with Red Hat, but Linux sux compared to windows, I just could not settle for less.)

There is very little that the public can see on it now, but I have big plans, and since I'm no longer limited to bandwidth, or server space and abilities I can pretty much take it to the level I want. I've wanted this for so long, it’s a great feeling that it’s all going together.

Tell me what you think about the looks, style and feel of the menu etc. I'm able to change anything on the spot. Also I'm willing to host small sites for people on a temporary basis if anyone is in need.

(Side note: I'm looking into having my server run cs:s at night or on the weekends depending on how my stress tests go.)
IDK I cant get on it at all.

How can Windows beat Linux, you can't change the source code for Windows and Linux can be shaped into anything you want, Windows is a lot easier to use but not better, learn to master Linux if you want to go big, especially since most of the internet is based on Unix systems. Personally I use XP, but that is because I am to lazy to put Mandrake on my computer. Anyway, nothing comes up.
Its up now, I shut off my server when I went to bed last night because I figured it was not worth keeping on all the time yet.

I do know linux pretty well, and I hate it because its un-reliable when it crashes (although rare) it is un-recoverable I have had serveral times were it has gone belly up and never come back resulting in me starting over, and the compatabilbits with other programs and os's is just sad, partly because windows will not recognize (sp) it as an os, and because its not a common household os for anything other then small servers.
It's good to use if you keep it small but windows is extremely open to someone that wants to hack, I personally don't hack, i'm more into security. Linux isn't automatic so it's almost impossible for someone to plant a successful virus and it's easier to secure, but Linux does require a lot of user input and because windows is so common you need to realize that other people have what you have and have picked it apart, Linux can be shaped the way you want so a hundred people could be using Red Hat and each be totally different
linux is really not as secure as everyone thinks, yeah its more secure in that there are less real threats against it but windows (if you know what your doing) can be just as locked up. Personaly I place "easy to use" at the top of my list, windows is just so easy, for ex. setting up a server to run as a DNS server is so easy on windows its like a 2 min task and your good, linux is 20 min of digging though text files and making new lookup zone files and revers zones its a mess, and they if it does not work your have to go though and check every little thing for that one extra or miss spelled word that brough the whole thing down. basilcy I'm in love with the gui interface. although my favoratisom probibly comes mostly from my exsperiance with windows, I have never really given linux a chance because it game me so much trubble the first few times I used it.

Exactly, and if everyone had lynux and windows was obscure, the security threats in lynux would be fare more known, and more of them would be known.
check out mine.. We need more members and such.. Theres an mIRC chat in there also.. Check it out and let me know what ya think or join up..

I'm just saying that Linux doesn't do automatic crap like Windows unless you ask it to. I like Windows and i'm lazy so I prefer Windows, but do you know how much crap I use to keep it secure, it takes a lot less resources to keep Linux secure, but yes a lot more time. Just like a lot of things it's mostly preference, you wiegh the pros and the cons and make your choice, BTW the site looks good to start off with.
thanks, yeah its all up to what you want and what you want to put into it, each have there pros and each have the downfalls, its all up to what you want.

not bad, the only thing that I dont really like (maybe its just me) but its just kinda out there, I'm obsesed with putting borders, and crap in so that everything looks in place, but then again thats just me.
I guarantee that linux has just as many flaws as windows does, the Linux ones just simply aren't as exploited as much. Why? Windows is on the vast majority of computers in the world, that is why hackers and virus writers exploit it more than linux. Same goes for Macin-Trash.
