So just had my A/C recharged, and now the damn thing won't turn off. This does explain some of the problems with not so hot heat and low gas mileage. What can I look for to fix this??

Is your HVAC unit set to defrost only?

Im don't understand what you mean?

Whether the A/C button is pressed in or not, the Air is on, thats all I know. The knob for temp is all the way on the blue. Again, not sure what you mean by defrost only. And where the air goes buttons, doesn't matter which one is pushed in.

Oh ok, I was talking about the "where the air goes buttons" being on defrost only, because I noticed on Natalie's car that the A/C was always on if the defrost was on.

same with my car. if youre on "front windshield defrost only" then the a/c will be on, even with the heat on.

Well I think it has to do with the AC button connection alwayts being engaged, so new question

How do I get the climate control unit out??

I have seen times when the solenoid on the AC clutch was stuck on causing the AC to always run and the way this ford was wired it would also cause the AC light to come on. I would check for an actual signal being sent to the compressor before I pulled the console apart.

I would take the connector off of the compressor and see if that will disegauge the clutch or not. I think the GT is a 4 prong, ST may only be 1. Test for a voltage across the connectors and cycle the ac switch to see if it comes on and off. There should be a little relay box near the front of the engine bay that has the ac relay in it, and you could test that too. If everything is good i guess you will have to look at the control unit, but that thing has like 20 wires coming out of it becuase it also controls the vsv for idle up, monitors the rpm, the pressure inside the system, possibly the coolant temperature, and one of the radiator fans.

Ok I will check those. Thanks. The reason I was thinking control unit is b/c when I bought the car the A/c light didn't eve come on. The place we took it to fixed that problem, but it always comes on. Im not a huge fan of them so I Don't want to take it back there. So I was thinking the problem might be with the unit, but I will check the relays first

If you can't find out what is wrong here is a link to the ac section of the service manual. It has parts for checking resistance and continuity between terminals of the ac control units.

hey I pulled the AC compressor ting from the car and it still blew AC. What do you reccomend I do next? And where is the solenoid thing that i can look at?

so after lots of work on it today, it turns out that its my compressor clutch that is always engaged. I went to Autozone and spent 25$ and jury rigged a new Ac switch to turn off and on my AC> theres no way I was going to spend like 600 bucks on a new compressor
