Fiberglass Interior - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #23974 24 posts Started by sapperk
Has anybody done custom fiberglassing interior? I am starting the project, and any ideas, suggestions would help. Im starting with the headliner and almost done.
I 'glassed a gauge and my power window switches into the area where my cigar ligher and power mirror controls used to be. I can probably find pics if you want to see how it looks.

New Toyota project coming soon...
I'm in the process now, just figuring out how i can either glass over my door panels, or body fill them ... problem is making it stick.
vinny, what you do is remove the panel

then glass from behind like use the stock as a mold

then pull it apart
glass on the outside of the 1st glassing you did
and you make a new panel
I really dont wanna make a new panel tho...
Can you guys show pic?

This is the head liner i am in process of doing. When i finish practicing on this, i will begin the rest of the interior, starting with the center console.
Would fiberglass bond to plastic as well? I want to make a holder to go under the radio to hold 3 gauges and was wondering what would be the best material to try to make it out of.
when you get it all installed.. tell us if it affects the road noise and if the interior get more hot.

what a pain.. Im almost done now, just filling in some pin holes, then i need to install, neon light, new switch for sunroof, and my tweeters.
im doing my dashboard right now.. two tvs and a ps2 molded in.. its coming out good ill post up all the pics when i finish it
DJFate u moulding the dashboard or just going over the vinyl with fiberglass?
took the vynil off.. and under it theres foam.. fiberglassed the foam and fiberglass a mold to hold the tvs and ps2.. then i tried wrapping it in carbon fiber but the material i bought was **** so im just gonna wrap it in suede
i say go ahead and do the whole interior fiberglass, oh wait, this isnt the forum for people trying to kill themselves in car accidents. hehe

To live, is to sufferTo survive, thats to find meaning, in the suffering....
Fate, the foam didnt melt? usually the foam disengrates because of the heat generated by the fiberglass.
nope suprisingly it didnt, i tried it in a small area first and it was str8.. plus the dash is not fully fiberglass so in a wreck i wouldnt have too much of a problem.. plus i got a 4 point harness.. im not going anywhere hehehe
WHat do u mean not fully fiberglassed?

Btw, did you strip the vinyl, than wrap it with fleece and just resin?
its not fully fiberglass cuz its a thin layer over the dashboard, not a complete mold of the dashboard... yea the vinyl was stripped and resin was applyed right over the foam.. it sunk in the foam pretty well and is holding up.
I maid fiberglass peaces to replace my dash ones, but they did not turn out, and ended up getting thrown out, also I maid tail light covers out of fiberglass that I eventualy threw out as well for the jdm tails.
DJFate thanks for the answers, only reason im asking is because im having a hard time deciding how i am going to do my door panels, alot of people told me not to go over the foam because it will melt it, and i dont want to strip down the foam and try and recreate the look of the door, i'd rather just fleece over the foam and soak the resin in than sand touch up and paint.
yea try a little spot first and if its dries str8 and not odd shaped.. like the foam sinks in.. then ur good
