do you guys have any tips on making this connection more realiable? anyone ever buy a range expander? how well do they work ?

my main connection is a wired desktop.... but this is for a laptop in the living room. most of the time it works great...but sometimes i get drop outs.

i think linksys sells antenna kits that help spread the range....anyone ever use one?

well, i think it depends on your house, and how many walls the connection has to go through.

ended up ordering an antenna kit for it... people seem to rave about it

i have linksys in my house. I have no problems till I go all the way upstairs which is atleast 75 ft. away, upstairs. I dunno, depends on where u are and ****.

I have D-Link wireless G, and my access point is downstairs on the other side of the house (60ft) through a couple walls and I dont ever get dropped. It could be your firewall if you have one. When my Norton was setup correctly I'd get dropped all the time.

Thats one way of doing it, another is using a pig tail, they are a bit more expensive and you have to aim them but holy crap you can get great results, check out www.thescreensavers.com I remember them doing their own DIY strength boosters, they used a coffee can and some coax cable. It was awesome >tongue.gif>
ok, if you are getting a poor connection, you NEED an "omni directional antenna" Hawking makes a very good one for about 30 bucks and its screws right into the old antenna slot. It triples your range power.
i have a linsys usb reciever, and i get connection perfect from all my neighbors so i'm very happy with the product. i think that antenna thing will do it for u.

Also make sure your using the latest drivers for your Wireless adpater as well Firmware for your Router. It actually can help alot too.

I set the network up in the mansion behind the fuzzy pic in my profile using a Linksys Wireless G router. The router sits on the second floor and I could stay connected anywhere including where my car sits.
yeah, i have an 80 dollar wireless g and it works through a couple of concrete walls.

i am awesome
You can try and buy the range extenders, i know at CC we sell them, or Try Pre-N Its saposed to give 800% more coverage, and i think it runs around $130-150.. but you also would have to get a pre-N card. But that will def work.
Extenders are all right but they cost way too much
i have linksys. and havent had much problem...you can ask celicaracer18 he used his labtop outside in my RV when he was here lol
