drove a GT 5-speed today - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #24110 26 posts Started by rocky2006
ive had my '97 ST auto for about one year now. the past month ive been learning to drive my friends 5-speed Geo Tracker (haha its a piece). FINALLY my other friend with a '94 GT manual let me drive his car for $3 around the neighborhood. oh its such a good feeling going from a ST auto to a GT stick. later on that night he let me drive it on main roads and the highway (didnt even do that in the tracker) cause i let him drive my car which i have no idea why he wanted to do that. anyway, just thought id share my first experience driving a GT.
Come.. To the dark side...
Wait till you drive a 3sgte celica.... there is no coming back from that...

Even at over $8 a gallon, there's no escape from boost.

JDM ST205Blitz Spec NUR Exhaust, somewhere over $1000Needing another one 18000 miles later, bloody annoying.
Funnily enough I also drove a 5 speed just yesterday. Boy, how I miss manual cars..
once I learned how to drive a 5speed I was hooked, it was my friends eclipse gt >smile.gif>

i would have to agree

I need to drive another GT with a S-54. The one that I've driven with one and the camry I drove with one both didn't feel good at all. The feel was very imprecise and vague, but maybe it's just those two cars.

New Toyota project coming soon...
If only all cars were manual, we wouldnt have to worry about not being able to find one and having to settle for auto. >smile.gif> There should be an additional $1,000 charge for an automatic transmission from the dealer haha...

EDIT: BTW, is it true that the 94-95 GT's have 5 more hp than the 96-99s?

No, but the california ones have a few hp less due to emmisions laws.
yup... nothing like manual...wouldnt have auto. (nothing against u auto guys, it does have its upsides)
i love my stick but i wouldnt want it in thick traffic

i am awesome
not me. maybe its just cause i dont have a stick and love driving them, but even in traffic id love one. i just cant get enough of driving a stick. lmao, my friends get so pissed at me cause i wont stop asking them if i can drive their cars. finally it has got to the point where i have to pay them. sucks, but its worth it for me.
i love manuals as well, iam thinkin about swappin my tranny in a few months.
how long does it take for an auto tranny to go bad with normal use? that is the only way ill ever get a stick swapped into my car.
ive seen auto trannys in DSMs last MUCH less than that figure lol

usually in eagle talons. 60K i think was the highest i seen. i have like 7 friends with either a 95-99 elcipse/talon and a 00 celica. the talons are the worst when it comes to trans.
my brother's '96 civic EX tranny started slipping at like 130k, but he drove the piss out of that thing constantly. should i expect about the same lifetime? my plans are to keep the celi forever (at least a long time). just when something goes out (tranny, engine, etc) just put something better in.

they do, autos cost more by about 1-2k then a manual. mainly because of parts. thats also why their resale value is higher then a manual.

hows it taste motha f*cka
Unless the car your selling is a sports car, in which case the manual version is usually the more desirable and thus more expensive model used.

3rd gen ST205 3SGTE - Alive and boosting.
the only vehicle ive ever seen where the AT model was cheaper than the MT model is a RX-8, and this is because each trim only comes with 1 transmission option where the AT model is the lesser model and the MT 6-speed was the fully loaded and faster model.

$8 a gallon? WOW!! That blows... I love my manual though
There are ups and down with manuals........I love it when I am in the mood to drive, but when you're not in the mood....it could get annoying. Oh well, I'll be boosting in like 2 weeks......so I am sure I'll love my manual all the time when I have boost.

I have ADD and actually focus better on driving when I'm driving a manual (keeps all the different tracks in my brain going at the same time)

Plus I learned on a manual when I was 14 and that's all I've had so yeah.

id never get an automatic - it keeps you away from the experience of driving the car - its more a sharing the experience with an auto than living the experience with a manual =)
plus i mean.. you can just have so much more fun/control over a manual..!
