The KA24 is a very old design and people that are familier with imports have a little trouble with them, they're not too bad though.

My mistake I thought you were talking about the 240SX motor, i've heard the 944 had a crap motor and for a Porsche they're pretty slow.
if i can get it for less then 3 grand i think its worth it. then ill have a 944 and 6gc

Woe woe, were did you guys hear they were POS's? Porshe is suposed to be more reliable than Toyota. Porshe is the top of the list. And as for those motors being slow, drive one.

Supposed is the whole line. The 944 isnt a good car. It is the slowest porsche on the market and if you ask anybody that has one they are not reliable by any means. & a pain to work on.
Found this, only goes back to 1990
Midterm Reliability Ratings (1-3 years) definition

Review: I have owned the car for more than 3 years. Very nice - but be prepared to TAKE CARE OF THE CAR. This is not a Honda Civic that only needs an oil change. It will need new belts every 30K and extras to make sure she stays in top running condition --from edmunds.com
thats why i said its not a good car....not a well built car. Now I do like the 911s

nah dude, i'm not all about the celica. I'm just one of those guys that are around alot of different cars and know ppl w/ them. & that car is a beast to keep in running order. I love the 3000GT, looks, & power....but wouldnt get one 'cause you know you'd be under the hood like crazy....& for that matter the 7mgte engine is a time consuming engine too. But I would get me a 1990 supra and play w/ it.... I just love the styling of the car and want to play w/ one extremely bad. I almost got rid of my dependable celica for it but decided I should keep my dependable car and get the supra when I dont have to drive it on a daily basis

ive come to realize if its not the car the forums about its getting diss-ed on. inless us st guys are talking about our car then the gt;s pick on us just like any other forum the vr-4 guys pick on the st guys on 3si and the gt guys on PT pick on the se guys. so idk. as for being reliable from how long i ahve known the man he has owned that car and babyed it. and it has broke a few times but it seams good and i think its preaty dam fast. and i mean its still a 4 cly lets see a celica beat that. could a gt-4 beat it??
its right at 209 hp, and 208 tq, I believe. Pretty quick car. But like you said he babies it and has broken on him a few times. I'm just trying to look out for you. Dont make it your permit transportation. Its a good car if you have money to just put into something. Its not meant to be a daily driver.
Don't forget it's also around 3,000 lbs.

thats little porsche is 3000lbs?!?!? well how fast you you all say it is? like 1/th time 0-60 times?? im not looking for a speed demond here, its just a cool car for cheap. and fater then what i have now
That's what Edmunds reports and they're pretty accurate. They are an a** to work on, but they can be beast if done right. Stock they're about as fast as a GSX or mid-90's Mustang GT, which is still better than the Celica.
We weren't trying to pick on the 7A rockstar, we just now that unless you you add a lot of mods to the 7A it's hard to make it powerful enough to take the 240SX. As everyone is saying it wouldn't make a good daily driver, it's only got around 200hp, it's heavy and the parts would be expensive to replace, and it has bad mileage for a 4 cylinder. If you want a good looking quick car to make a daily driver go for a mid 90's Talon TSi, those things are around the same but the repair cost is nothing compared to a Porsche and the mileage is much better.
before i got my celica i was thinking a tsi but i heard they break alot or just as much as a 3000gt and theres crank walk alot with them. and if that happens the engines done with. and i didnt want that, if i got this 944 i would keep my celica for a daily driver and have the 944 for week ends and thats kinda stuff. also i dont know how fast a stang gt from the 90's is or a gsx
Crank walk is a problem with pushing a stock 4G bottom end to it's limit, the mid-90's GT's and the GSX aren't that fast, they run typical low to mid 15's, let's just say I wouldn't take that Porsche up against an RSX-S or newer Z28.

Who would want to swap a 7AFE for a 5SFE, it's just as easy to throw a 3SGTE in it. Ask easternpiro1 if a 7AFE can outrun a 240SX, he's got an intake and exhaust and still got his a** handed to him by a Civic 4 door. The 240SX is a lot slower than the numbers say but a 7AFE still couldn't hold up, s*** the 5SFE has a hard enough time. To know for sure what engine you have does it sit straight up or lean towards the windshield?

It's alright Matt just keep telling your car that you'll get it a 3SGTE when it gets big, and maybe take it to McDonalds to play in the ball pit, lol j/k.

eclipse's have crappy transmissions.....Every friend that has had a gsx, or an eclipse for that matter has had some bad trannies. And you don't have to worry about crank walk "too" much provided you take care of it. Ppl thinking that every dsm will have crank walk is a misconception. And if you can drive a gsx good, launching it and all, I'd say it's quicker than 15's. I've driven my friends on a failing tranny and it seems almost as fast as my 2. I'd beat him, but not by a lot, he only had intake and exhaust and a short shifter.

White 93 Mr2 Turbointake, exhaust, and stuff
It's the GSX that has a bad transfer case and transmission, I think it's only good for 400hp and I believe a stronger replacement is pretty expensive, just like on most AWD cars. The FWD versions are better in terms of reliability but it's still a FWD.
well i mean this car only had like 85k on it, and if i can get it for like 2.5 or 3 grand u dont think its worth it?? he has all the hook up on mechanics on this hing so if i ahve a problem i can get it fixed dirt cheap. and its faster then my celica. im not going for the fastest porsche. just somethin nice with a little more go then a st. and 200+ hp is nice to me. coming from 110
Yeah it would be worth it, if you can get cheap repairs, there isn't much wrong with the 944, it was just Porsches bastard child, one question is it an S2?
whats a s2?? the turbo one?
They are the non-turbo versions made until 1991, the turbo was availible until 1989 and has 217hp until 1988 when they made an S model availible with 250hp.
This was taken from 944 central:
Like many other automobiles that do not have an overwhelming "collector" following, the 944 (like its siblings) has depreciated significantly over the years. This may prompt budget-minded consumers to consider the 944 for their sportscar of choice. If this is your motivation to purchase a 944...please reconsider. The 944 is a Porsche through and through, and has similar maintenance needs (and costs) of any other Porsche. The 944 is not a "starter car" for your 16 year old; nor is it a "stepping stone" to a 911. Don't buy one to drag race with your buddies, or trick-out with the latest in tacky accessories. There is enough of that out there already, and plenty of other cars that will serve you quite well for such purposes. True 924/944/968 fans have an honest appreciation for the series--the excellent handling, appearance, value, and in some cases, performance.
