Hey Everyone. I found a '96 GT I really like and I have my dad going to check it out tomorrow. I would like to know what you guys think...

looks clean ... check out the history of the car, whether or not its been in any accidents or so. if it hasnt, then go for it

IMO 8g's aint worth it.

Are you coming with your dad to check it out 2morow? Look for as much flaws as possible and use it in your favor to reduce the price. Look like you're not into the car...

no man that is just a pic of another 6gc. i just got a front and rear clip and it did come with that lip on the bumper too. my car will look like that in about 3 months. gotta wait for it to come back from EL prototypes

Get a cheaper 6th gen celica, use the remaining $$ and save up for front+rear clip. Than you'll have that cool look along with performance as well. Later on i think you'll definately ask bout power.

Actually, I don't plan on keeping the car for very long. I'm going to swap it out for an IS300 when I go to college. I don't mind a few mods, but I'm not going very big.

I think this is better lookin:

7k for the car is reasonable since it's in good condition. I would only spend 8 k if the car was a convertible.

It -is- fairly loaded in terms of the options (sideskirts, sunroof/moonroof)... so if you can haggle down to 7500, I think you would have a good deal...you might get it even lower by pointing out the slightly high mileage. Of course it depends how regular the maintenance on it has been, whether it was involved in any accidents, etc. As for 'swapping it out for an is300' do you mean you're just going to sell it once you get that, or keep both and daily drive the celica?

See, I'm 15 and I turn 16 in may and get my license in june. I will need a car by the end of the summer because starting my junior year, I am going into the apprenticeship program which is where you leave school every day at 2:30 and go to a job...blah blah. I am a huge car enthusiast and my dad works for Toyota, so I get lots of extra benefits if I buy a Toyota product. For example, I might buy the car now and then have him give it to some of his guys and have them look it over. I'd pay dealer cost for the car and dealer cost for parts, and nothing for labor. So, If i buy the car now and let my dad have it for two months- who knows, might need a new timing belt or something- then it wil be ready by the time I turn 16. Now, I don't plan to own the car for a terribly long ass time, maybe 2-3 years, but at that point I need RWD and more than 4 cylinders. So I think the IS300 will be a nice car for a 18-20 year old guy. I decided on the Celica because I have to have a stick...driving an automatic seems like a handicap, and I wanted something nimble and fun to drive. I also like the way the car looks. I was originally looking at getting an '03 'Rolla S, but I think the Celica is more what I want as far as price/ performance is concerned.

by all means the celica is the car for you. and its nice to see a 15 year old (excuse the term) "kid" with a plan like yours and realizes theres more to cars than big exhausts and aluminum spoilers. could you PM me and explain this apprenticeship thing a lil more to me? im rather interested.

perks of the celica:
great looking car, very agile, light, fun to drive, extremely comfortable cockpit style interior, a little get up and go with the GT but very slow compared to the competition (i list this as a perk b/c it saves money from speeding tickets >> ), gradually growing aftermarket, rare car, and like all toyotas extremely reliable.

downsides:
very slow...

Hey kid, own that car and there's a slight chance that you might change your mind.

You did not go into much details about why you don't want a 4banger or why you want an RWD.

Advice: What i'm doing now is using my celica as a daily driven car while i soup up my project car. At the same time I'm improving my 6th gen as well because the project relates to using 6th gen front clip.

MY attraction to the IS300 is based on the car's amazing handling and the sweet, sweet sound of that I6. My dad has had a few for company cars and once you drive one, it's impossible to forget.

ok for the price of an is300 you can have a super fast celica.

and there are lots of cars out there that have the same body style and headlight style of an IS300.

By then, SC400, GS400s and even GS430s will be in my price range. >> >>

Do you mean the exhaust sound of it? If so than I'd have to agree on that. How is the sound sweet? My project car sounds like very buff like a domestic car.

Again, i agree with you on the handling of a RWD car. FWD sucks but AWD is better.

IT'd probably stick around, I have a brother that is 12 so he might need it. Anyway with the IS300...it has an inline 6 did you know that? I6s are prominently known for balance and that sweet, sweet sound. It just sounds awesome >>

Yeah i really like IS 300's, I cant think of a nicer brand new toyota id want more than that, of course toyota could bring something nicer (brand new supra, brand new celica) in 2-3 years when you go to college, only downside to is300's is they get crappy gas mileage, like a v8 almost. Oh yeah the new is300 coupe looks sexy.

Ahh...well, again I think the car would be a good deal provided it's in good condition and wasn't beat on. I like the color a lot, too, I don't often see metallic grey ones. As it's a gt hatchback, though, it's the best kind of celica to try any swaps on (3sgte/awd)

Edit: ah, noticed it's from a dealer...bleh, they always try to gyp you somehow

The celica is a good car to start off with. It's reliable, looks nice, has good handling, fuel efficient.

If I had 8k, I would get 300Zx Fairlady. Those things are super fast.

Well I wanted to let you all know that I had my dad go and look at it yesterday. The interior is Cloth with no floormats either. Let's see...where do I start. On the exterior there is a hole in one of the headlights, putty on the drivers door which means damage, the tires were almost bald, and the paint is in OK condition. On the inside there was significant water damage which smelled, stained seats, and a riceboy shifter which tells me the car was driven really hard. Sorry, but I will find something else.

Just wondering, what should I expect to pay for a 97-99 ish GT with spoiler, leather, CD, sunroof, side skirts and alloys with between 50 and 80K on the clock?

Yeah, definitely keep waiting...that is definitely not worth 5K let alone 8K.

I'd say probably around 8-10K...you could check bluebook and NADA or whatever it's called.

ps. Don't do anything to it, Celicas don't have that much potential, only if paired up with 3SGTE (mr-2, all-track) engines, you either go big or not at all.
