well kinda was thinking about doing this since my engine is about to die.. i just feeling it going to happen it soon.... doing the 3S-GE swap .. and then intalling the Ripp mods supercharger.. i think that would be a sick swap/install .... but doesn't look like i will be doing it anytime soon unless i get a way better job. ASAP ... but any way .. just wonder what ya'll think about this? here is a list of the what i would have had installed

3sge
RippMods SC
Custom ECM
FMIC
CUstom Gearbox
Custom LSD
CUstom Hi Tq axles
remove AC

*thats just a few things i was thinking about not a complet list over everthign needed ...

i think it would be a great idea.. I love how much more reliable a supercharge engine is. and how less mantinance compared to a turbo is.

But then you get into the area of.. "is it worth the money"

this would not be worth it. cuz the charger alone is 2k. Imagine you dumping 2 on a turbo on the 3s. Additionally, the 3sge ecu is not ment to handle boost. So if you want real power you would need a stand alone. That is gonna hurt your wallet.

So is it worth the money? its up to you.
well worth the money .. to me yes ever worth the money ... are there cheaper options then yes.. do i want them maybe .. would i rather have this yes... ... when it comes to what a how much money any mod is worth .. the only thing that is worth it or not is what u are willing to do .. this if the cash comes my way to do it.. will be done... but doesn't look like that will ever happen unless i get this new job i'm hopping to get and keep my currnet job.. but enuff about that.. what does everyone else think ?

[TeamNJCT
Sounds interesting... for the tranny and LSD I'd just use a newer MR2 tranny. That would make life somewhat easier. >wink.gif>
I think its a great idea! I think the full RippMods kit at $3500 is well worth the money, and on a 3s will be really nice.

Its Orville's Celica, i just drive it...
for $3500 you get a vortech supercharger & custom mount it + get a e-manage to make the boost work!!! for $3500 you can get a 3s-gte sawp I got a shop in NY that can do it BRKLYN!!!
ok can no one else mention a 3s gte swap ...... this thread is not for that.... its on opinions for a 3s gze .. some of us like to do crazy stupid stuff that has no real reason to be done other then put a >biggrin.gif> on the owners face .. just because it was done ....

[TeamNJCT
it would be a nice setup. The ripp mods kit is made so you dont have to worry about engine failure or anything like that. If you buy a 3sge, like the one digndoug has, and supercharge it you would be alot faster than the 3sgte. your looking at 177 hp + w/ 5-9psi S/C running probably around 215-230 whp. W/ no turbo lag just straight power. He also has the trans and that would be able to handle it. It would be a fun toy...... + you still would get pretty good gas mileage
would it be better to use a 3gte engine? since it has stronger internals. maybe dual charged?
depends on which kit he wants to buy. If he just goes for 5.5psi-9psi, then the 3sge will be better because the high compression will give him better numbers. If he wants to up the PSI and try to make alot of horse power then the low compression setup of the 3sgte will be better. I think the 3sge w/ the Ripp Mods S/C will be a killer setup.
3sge has bad forced induction internals in my opinion compared to the 3sgte...its a big difference....i would get a 3sgte...taeke off the turbo and put on super charger

How so? The 3S-GE has about the same internals as the 3S-GTE. Only the obvious exception is the pistons. Other than that they're practically the same.

Oh and if you're going to go with the Ripp Mods S/C, make sure it bolts right up to the 3S-GE. The S/C was designed to bolt up to the 5S-FE, but there are some differences between the 5S-FE and the 3S-GE. The thing to look out for would be the intake manifold. The 3S-GE's intake manifold runs over the valve cover unlike the 5S-FE. So you would have to check to see if any modificationns need to be made.

I've been reading up on superchargers for years, I'm just a tech nerd...

I would personally reccomend a Lysholm twin-screw superchager. Some sweedish dude invented this type of supercharger. Mercedes may use rotary lobe (Eaton) on some of their cars, but on high boost/performance applications they switch to the lysholm. Whipple is an aftermarket mfg of this type of charger.

Eaton are good for low-boost low RPM applications, centrifugal are good for high end power applications but have low boost at low RPMs and perform similar to turbos. The Lysholm uses internal compression in the screws giving good low end boost and is much more efficient in higher boost applications.

As long as you are looking for 10+ PSI and good low RPM power without sacraficing high RPM power, the Lysholm is the way to go.

The Mazda Millenia with the Miller cycle engine uses one of these chargers. It is a 2.3 litre V6 engine and the charger is compact. You could buy a used one of these and have it rebuilt. It would be a good match for a 3sge. You could also get an aftermarket one from whipple, you are looking at $1500+.

geekboy u make really good points...

i was thinking of a vortec charger for the reason it act like a turbo where the power comes in at higher rpms.... the 3s gze for me would be for everday use but at the same time i don't want all that exrta kick when i'm in the city driving and i'm at really low rpms... its mostlly for weekend high way driving and the ocasunaly weekends at the track .... and now with this new job i might be starting soon it looks like a SC is in my near futur but is on the 5S or 3S if i do a swap ..

lol ... u better tell u then damnit.. lol.... so whats on ur mind ???? u know u want to tell us...

well I was thinking that if you can get some one to make you a custom manifold you can go this route: get a 2nd gen 3sge out of a 901-91 gts or from japan. Then get the supercharger of the supercharged preiva wagon(yeah they came supercharged and with an ice box! >biggrin.gif> ) get a trd 16 pound pully and um have fun!

I thought off this cause my neighbor used to have a toyota FX16 with a 4agze. He puta jza80 supra intercooler in it and then he got the supercharger out a a preiva cause it is very big compared to the stock 4agze supercharger. He changed the pully and he was able to slaughter evo's and sti's on the highway. So I was just thinking of using that set up
I too have been thinking about the 3S-GZE swap later on down the road. Turbos, in my experience, have reliability issues like wearing out, lag, and the occasional exploding. (not my own, but from working in an auto shop that was the bulk of what I saw on turbo cars) However, I haven't ever owned a vehicle with a T/C, so I wouldnt know if these people were just stupid, or if it was all true reliability problems. The car I have seen with major turbo problems are the 80's Mitsubishi Starion... I seem to be working in circles, I think i'll shut up now.

Not to hand. Let me have a hunt.

Any idea on particular Whipple SC which would fit 3rd gen. 3s-ge?
Any other manufacturers available, expecially European?
How much re-work of original engine would be required?

Utterly dependant on how much power you want.

Another idea for us poor saps in NA might be the 2AZFE

The boys at scionspeed are getting amazing numbers out that engine on the stock internals. Sure they are turboing it, but the turd supercharger is a vortex and rumored to put out over 200 HP without intercooling or a decent tune. why wait for turn, just diy with a better tune and intercooling.

Does anyone know if that engine will bolt up to either our tranny or a MR2 turbo version?

Thats if TRD comes out with the S/C. That thing has been delayed many times. I doubt our trannies will bolt up to the 2AZ-FE.
