EDIT: just realized you said other than bittorents, um limewire works good for individual songs, but if you want anything more and high quality definitely torrents. Run a peerblocker like peerguardian tho.

Azureus for bittorrent

and I use Ares for P2P sharing. However I seldom ever do any downloading besides my weekly anime shows from Japan.
