8th gen Celica? - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #24891 24 posts Started by Illyont
Anyone know when we are going to see a new generation Celica? The 6th gen were made from 94-99 (6 years) so we should get a new generation next year or so (since 00-05 is another 6 years). Or maybe not.. Would be fun though >smile.gif> Lets just hope they don't keep that ****ty 7th gen rear end look because that sucks. Lets have the 6th gen look back.
Nope. Celica line basically ends at the 7th gen.
Unfortunately, CoSo is right. The Celica will be gone, and if I remember right, the Scion tC basically took it's place. But, this will make our cars even more rare than they already are.
That is true, and very sad. I hate to see the celi go.
Toyota is also discontinuing the MR2 Spyder >frown.gif>

toyota is not discontinuing the MR2, but are going in a different direction and as I believe are going to try to make a more "sporty" hybrid car.
Japan will have them but USA won't

=(
they discontinue them in USA, not Japan.
yeah

MR2 stands for Mr. 2? or is it Mid engine, Rear wheel drive, 2 seater?

That's what I thought originally, the Mid engine, Rear wheel drive, 2 seater. I looked it up and found it means Midship Runabout 2.

Illyont,

these guys don't realize you are from norway, most of this board in from North America.

The celica is toast in '06 in North America only. MR2 in USA as well, it never came to Canada. The celica will still be offered in the rest of the world - unless toyota changes their mind on that too.

As far as the 8th gen - some speculation, little information on it. try carspyshots.net but I don't recall any reputable info.

Your are right, it is well overdue: 99, 00, 01, 02, 03, 04, 05

that is 7 years with the same model (for japan). 6th gen was 93, 94, 95, 96, 97, 98.
94+ 93=last year of all-trac(and other 5th gens) unless you are talking about new release cars.
they changed the look of the 7th gen once would that be considered the 8th gen?? i mean it went from having a small grill behind the toyota emblem to none

i dont think so that would be like the change in the fornt bumper and spoiler of the 95 to the 96 and up 6th gens.
they just look totally different i dont think they should have changed it the newest one is ugly i mean the 2000-2003 werent bad but when they took that grill out it is the ugliest thing

ie. a facelift.

Last time I was at a Toyota Dealership (in the UK), the guy said that Toyota were discontinuing the Celica and MR2 and making a hybrid of them costing in the region of £40'000 (around $80'000?)
I'm guessing he may have got some wrong info.... it'd be too hard to sell a hybrid of the two at that price when Celica's and MR2's are so much more affordable and appealable to a mass-market.

Still, I guess it's just a case of waiting for Toyota to announce the fate of the Celica.

Scion tC doesn't stand for (or is intended to mean) Toyota Celica. I read in Road and Track that Scion wanted to name the new car xC (continuing the xA, xB tradition) but Volvo had already copyrighted it with the XC90. Instead, they named it tC, which stands for touring coupe. It is, however, taking the place of the Celica in the Scion lineup.
