JDM ST205's 3SGTE OBD2? - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #24983 22 posts Started by K-ESD
I was wondering if the JDM GT-Four's 3SGTE is OBD2, the reason for this is (if i get that engine) i want to plug my carPC to my ECU's diag port to see the sensor's reading in real time and other little nice features that can be added by plugging the diag port on a PC.

Also does this work with standalone ECUs?

info: i have a 94' Celica GTS that i believe is OBD1

Thanks

- Nick

The JDM GT-Four 3SGTE isn't OBD2 I'm afraid matey >frown.gif>
i believe they are if they're post 1996
is the OBDII standard worldwide? if so, all 96+ street cars should be OBDII
i know some pre 96 cars were OBDII before it became a standard but very few of them

Hi there...

I'm new to 3S world...
need advice from you guys...

How to make sure it a 1996 3SGTE ?
How would 3S OBDII looks like ?
If its a 96+ engine its OBDII...

You can check the year by just asking the importer usually, or get the vin off it and find somewhere to run it.

yup ...I just realized that after i've checked my VIN number...

my coding was similar like this (found it on the internet)

Question now...how to determine the year model ?

dat is the cc of the engine not the year
hmm I think the above is a 96 lol

your best bet is to either run the vin, or if you dont have that or can't get that, check the frame number to get a rough estimate.

SO... would that mean if I got the BEAMS 3SGE since it was only made in 1998... it would be OBDII???
1998 is not the year it is the engine displacement

Sorry I thought it was a one year thing. frown.gif So I'd still pass my emissions since all they do is plug into the OBDII port?
I'm wondering this same thing... I've got a Rev2 3s 90-93 alltrac sitting, waiting to go in, but because IL emissions plugs into the diag port, I'm hesitant on this.....

OFF TOPIC: would running a rev2 3s with an ST205 ECU allow the diag port to operate normally? (with a pass of course....)

ive never seen or heard of an OBDII gen 3 motor.
AFAIK, they all run on the OBDI system.

I swapped a 4AGE 20valve into my 93 Corolla and everything worked with the DIAG PORT just fine except the SRS. The car the ecu came out of didn't have that supported I guess. But the engine and ECU were out of a 1995 model and of course didn't have OBDII.
