For people with new struts - 6G Celicas Forums

Okay, so the front struts are removed, and you're supposed to unscrew it apart right? I cannot get that mother to budge. Lots of PB blaster, a big wrench, and a vise, and it won't go. Anyone got some tips?

i remember it being 2 big bolts, use a wrench on one side and a impact gun on the other, then a small nut that holds the brake line...then the 3 nuts at the top. should be able to slide out
wow this is really confusing i think yall are misunderstanding each other
He's talking about the front strut itself, the ring part that unscrews so you can remove the shock part and insert the cartridge.

I had the same problems, PB blaster is pretty worthless. You need a large plumbers wrench, I got my neighbors big red one that was about 3 ft long. You just need for twist that thing off, make sure you hit it a couple times to release tension, and then go for it.
got it out, but when i pulled the old cartridge out, liquid spilled from the strut...what was that? just liquid from the old catridge being blown? or do i need to add whatever liquid that was into the strut...?

that was the oil from the blow strut.. the new cartrage should not need any thing else.
WRONG!

RYAN, I told you already. KYB struts are gas charged struts. You need to put light weight OIL in the strut housing and side the new gas strut back in. This oil is for improving heat transfer... Ive done this multiple times on toyota's.

Here is the how-to for mr2's...the main difference is mr2's use replacable cartridges all around...Celica's only have them on the front

i guess you could put the strut back into a dry housing but your not really supposed to... Im sure it decreases the life of the struts with too much heat.
thanks dan, i just wanted to see what other people would say, im doing the oil bit

either oil, or brake fluid - not too much
