Need New Intake? - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #25183 35 posts Started by eyohannie
When I bought my car last week I noticed that there was a tear in the pipe thing (?) between the air filter and the engine. Right now the tear is being held together with some sort of duct/electrical tape and I feel like I should fix it right away. I don't really know how to explain it since I'm pretty much new to this whole car thing but here is a picture of what I'm talking about [it's not my actual car]:

Basically I need to replace it, and I need to know what it is and around how much it costs. Thanks guys.

Yeah, just buy a ram air or cold air set up. It'd be cheaper. But honesty, if it's got some good electical tape on it, you really don't need to do anything. It should be fine for years to come. If it's duct tape, it will last forever.

I was looking around on some auto parts websites and these cold air intake kits cost upwards of 200 bucks. Is there any other type of cheaper >wink.gif> solution?
You can always make your own.
well 30 on up to 100 depending if you opt for the bypass valve and a name brand filter.
i bought an AEM cold air intake for a 00 TIB
i'll know if it works by friday

duct tape could fix that. >tongue.gif>

FlickR2011 Subaru WRX and 1997 3sgte Celica
but why just "fix" it when he could get a new toy and enjoy a cai!

oh, my bad. i read it wrong. ignore my stupidity.
I have a question: CAI is not smog certified, but it is not illegal in the state of California? So you can have a CAI and it's street legal, but it's not smoggable? How is this possible?

Argh... I'm just going to the dealership and getting it there if it's under $50.

Another question: Sorry if it's off topic:
BTW I hear I clicking noise most of the time I turn corners (1-3rd gears), is it my CV boot?
bear in mind what works for a st won't be the same for the gt and vice versa, the bays are different.

How? I've never seen a difference besides engine and mounts, and those are minor.

it is not CARB legal to make your own Air intake for our celica. I dont believe there is any LEGAL cai for our celica's at. California law says its illegal to modify the intake in any way. So if you want a CAI you are running a risk. BUT most cops and smog station dont car. But keep your stock airbox just incase.

the engine in a GT is in an angle and leans back towards the engine bay, the throttle body is located in a different location compared to the ST engine.

Yeah, I learnt that the hard way while trying to follow the DIY cai tutorial on the site.
I've been looking at some pictures, and it seems like the st's throttle body sits about 2-3 inches farther forward than the gt's. I would't consider this significant. Does those few inches really make that much of a difference?

What I really don't understand is why AEM or WEAPON-R or any other aftermarket performance company has not released a CAI for the 6th gen Celica GT. I'm puzzled why the more powerful engine was neglected in favor for the less powerful engine on the ST.
MWAHHAHAHAHAHHA

i have an AEM intake! >biggrin.gif>

Please elaborate.
modified to fit im sure...aem, injen and weapon-r feel that they wont sell enough to cover the cost to make them thereofre they suck a fat one!
i had a weapon r w.a.i. on a couple months after i got the car.
i got it straight from Weapon R for $150 shipped.
then i made my cai and sold the pipe to my friend.

i think he still has it, i might buy it back and PC it silver.

Do you have a web link for where you got that. I'm too lazy to make my own.
