v6 question - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #25196 37 posts Started by audiophile24
just wondering, i have noticed that camry's come with a v6 but i also noticed that the camry was released with a 5sfe in it also that lays in the engine bay the same way that the engine sits in my celica. i was wondering if it is feasible to swap a v6 camry engine into a celica i figured it would work seeing as how one of the choice trannies for a 3sgte is a v6 camry tranny and that the stock tranny for a st204 fits also so i figure in theory that a v6 camry engine swap would work with my stock trany i guess i would just need mounts ecu and harness right? or would it be a more complicated swap than expected?
Kinda uncharted territory with these cars. As far as I know, theres no such swap ever done. Doesnt mean it cant, just means nobody has done it, or tried. What generation Camry engine are you looking at? 94-96 Camrys had the 1MZ-FE while the 92-93's had the 3VZ-FE.

Personally, I think this is very do-able. Especially since its been done in MR2s for awhile now. I think someone needs to step and try it.

I'm also going to add that the Feasible engine swaps thread, needs to be revamped. I'm not convinced that the 2ZZ-GE engine cant fit in the Celica. The reasons listed are pretty weak IMO.

Well said. Also, the bashing of the 2jz needs to be removed too. Thats an awsome engine and can smoke most other engines including the 3s...

Im pretty sure it has been done on a 5th gen. If i find it ill post it up.

EDIT: It was a guy on celica.net, SBCelicaGT... he had a red 5th gen i believe and put a 1mzfe in it. Celica.net is down tho, and so is this guys website. If you have an imagestation account, this might still be up...

Has been done already to a 5th gen. He used the 1MZ-FE V6. I believe he's under the name of SBCelicaGT.

isnt the camry engine very very low end torquey with nothing up high?....u prob want to change that thing up a bit before dropping it in ur car unless u want to feel like ur driving a sedan...also it has a weak 185hp and 185trq hell the 1.6 liter blacktop 4age is close enough to that

Yeah you can put the 1mzfe engine in the car. It runs from 92-now. THe 1997-99 were the last models without VVTI, afaik. THe guy who swapped it in his 5th says to use a 971mzfe.

And heavily modded.

Its also been done on an mr2. fessible for a celica, but not explored that much.
do it if u want to be unique but dont expect a huge difference cuz its a 6 cylinder...if u want a 6 cylinder that makes a difference get the supra engine

I'll second that.

I would be doing this right now if I had a garage!
noobs? what the hell seriously the engine isnt that powerful at all for a 3 liter v6 find another engine..i know the supra wont fit without alot of work but still for the money and time ud put into swapping a v6 camry that has never been in a 6gc before and going through all the wiring which would probably require a standalone ur way better off with a 3sgte 4 cylinder for the performance u would get....theres a guy in my town with an mr2 with the camry engine and its not what u would expect
adding the supra engine would not be a swap.

You would have to hack the chasis so much, that it goes beyond what a swap is.
I've researched this swap, and have gone far enough to actually have a 96 1m sitting in my garage. I do know that a stock hood will not clear the intake manifold without sitting it lower in the engine bay, That means new mounts and cradle modifications. How hard this will be i am not for sure, but that's with a 5th gen, as far as the 6th gen it almost looks like the motor sits lower anyway, not enough though. As soon as a little more money comes my way i may actually start this, only time will tell though, if the car is not sold first.
good luck...alot of work ahead....r u gonna get poly mounts?
Doa photo journal. G'luck I'd like to see it.

You know what I notice? A lot of people talk... but no one really walks. FYI, you can't do a 2JZ without doing a RWD conversion...

What is this all about? I'm sure I could swap one in with very minimal trouble. I've swapped one into a '98 Corolla and that was a little more difficult.

Is it worth it when the 3SGTE is such an easy option is the question >smile.gif>

Anyway, the V6 is a feasible swap, and a good one for being unique and if you like the torque of a V6. Again, is it worth it when you have the 3SGTE option? >smile.gif>

YOU MEAN A 2JZ WONT FIT SIDEWAYS UNDER MY HOOD? >biggrin.gif>

I think a VR6 out of a jetta would not be to bad a swap, you can get some good power out of em, and there a good size, ment for FWD so your good as far as that goes. (any swap like thet is gana take some serous work dont get me rong)

but yeah why go that far when a 3s is a ecelent fit and a great motor.

eh, there like 230hp stock right. the problem is the power to weight, the bigger the motor, the more it has to put out to keep up with the lighter one.

The high proformance taurus always kinda maid me laugh, dont really know why, maybe because its a family car.
If you want to talk about a 1mzfe swap into a fifth-gen Celica...the guy's name is Adrian Averginos (okay, not sure on SP on the last name) and he's a regular on celicatech.com.

If you don't get it, then you missed the point and there isn't a point in me trying to explain it to you. >smile.gif>

It's probable, if you want to cut the car completly in half and add about 10" of sheet metal, F1 Motorsports I believe made a true widebody out of a Mustang Cobra, they also said they had over $100,000 in it. I should start walking in about 2 months when I start looking for a decent 3S and rear end, on the steering rack issue an F-Body steering system works nicely and leaves enough room for a V8 if I wanted, steering system is coming from F-Body Motorsports in Concord.
