Help w/ low cost performance mod. - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #25343 22 posts Started by runningaddict6
Can some of you more experienced guys(and girls >biggrin.gif> ) help out a newbie and give me a rundown on mods i could do my self for increased performance (my Pop's a mechanical engineer so they can be pretty complex, just i need them cheap). P.S. I am on a very tight budget, so can we keep it under $150? Thanks

well for that price unlese u get someone to steal ur a better performing car... u won't get anything noticable... shot ram or cold intake ... filter... ebay muffler.... u can get some 105 octang gass... or evern a used nitrous kit... .. performance and low cost when it comes to the celi just doesn't go hand and hand

ok, thanks for your time. would an ebay muffler even be worth it? Maybe i'll just stick to inexpensive visual mods.

If I only had $1000 to spend on a stock 6gc, I would buy:

Suspension Techniques front and rear sway bars ($250)
Tein Springs ($125)
Used 17" wheels + Firm, sticky 215/45/17 tires ($625)

Not fast, but fun around the corners and on the on-ramps.

buy a cold air intake and an E-bay muffler. You wont notice any performance gains, but you can tell people you have intake an exhaust (which is far more important) lol. >wink.gif>
sell your celica and buy a civic

you dont even need a cold air, short rams do just nicely. i bought a weapon R secert weapon intake and the best part about it is a mileage boost and the sound >biggrin.gif>

do an intake and some visual mods. the celica motors are already doing everything they can to make power, and there really isint much you can do without spending tons of money.

I would get some tien springs from ebay. Around 130 shipped.

That will set you in the right direction. After that get a do it your self short ram intake. And then a el cheapo ebay muffler.

I will return one day.
don't go shortram go COLD AIR
its much better and there is a how-to on it with a total expense of 30$

ebay muffler you can get for 10$ which will make a small but noticable difference

springs are nice
and so are wheels
jdm tail lights are always hot

but you can do a lot with homedepot stuff
or even your computer

just use your imagination

like picture guages (computer freebie!)
ect...
There is no real difference with a short ram or a cold air intake on a 7afe.
Short ram is cheaper and easier.
I'm telling you springs, short ram, and a muffler from ebay. You'll love your car.
Besides he telling you that he has a budget of 150. how are you gonna say rims or JDM tails ? Picture gauges are not a performance mod.
Read the thread.

Give him realistic advise.

I will return one day.
thanks everyone. i think i'm getting some teins and i'm saving up for 7th gen GTS rims. after that i'm gonna get a cheap muffler. ohh and i'll prob get an intake too. Should i make my own intake or buy a cheap one from ebay or something else? Which would be better?
It would probably be cheaper to make your own. They have really cheap kits on ebay, but the shipping is usually through the roof.

You might get lucky and find a used one here.

yeah i have a short ram..i dont need anymore... >biggrin.gif>
Custom short ram $50
Get exhaust pipe bent from flex to muffler removing resinators $50
Advance timing $ free
High octane gas $ 50
"High octane gas $ 50 "

where the hell do you get gas????

lets see right now 93 octane by me within a 50 mile radius goes from

2.09$-2.41$

so thats with a 13 gallon tank

27.17$ or 31.33$ how the hell do you spend 50$ on gas?
more than one tank

but anyways i filled up about 45 litres at about 92 cents a litre

CAI if you really want to do something... at least you can hear a difference in the sound and it'll make you think the car is performing better...

Speaking from personal experience.... I'd say save the $. It'll come in handy when you need to do routine maintenance. Water pump, timing belt, other drive belts, spark plugs, plug wires, distributor cap, oil changes, ect...

You could do all the work yourself above and just pay for the parts and that $150 will go a lot farther and will be better spent. Increase the longevity of your car, help performance, and give you more satisfaction.

Just a thought... I remember when my clutch went, timing belt needed replacement, and had the water pump changed. It all happened at the same time...right when I was in transition between jobs and was tight on cash. An extra $150 would have been nice at that time. Just remember unexpected things happen at bad times and that money might be sorely missed if you spend it on something that'll make your 17 second car into a 16.89 second car if you're lucky.

Celica's have a 15 gallon gas tank. And that's very cheap for 93. If your going to get 100 octain, it's about 5-6 dollars a gallon. I don't really recomend it. Not that much of it at least. I'd do 1/3 tank at the most, the rest 93. Be careful about doing somethings, make sure more than 1 or 2 people say it's a good idea. Some people just like to goof around and say things to be saying them. This is okay, as long as you realize it.

I'll take it. lol. How much do u want for it? -john
100 octane is just retarded unless your running high boost in a celica?!
