Well out of nowhere my clutch went. I put a new ACT clutch in about three days ago and it drove fine. But just today it started making weird noises and stuff. When i start off in 1st gear it shakes the car a lil. And then everytime i shift then hit the gas (or just when i am driving and let off the gas, and then hit the gas again) it feels like something slams and the car shakes a lil. And also there is a sound when i accelerate like i have a turbo spooling or something, which i do not have haha. Almost like a whinding sound, most noticeable accelerating in second gear.

what version of the act did you put in there?


you need to make sure you break the clutch in for at least 500miles. that means drive like grandma. the shaking you are feeling means that the clutch is still breaking in. also, does the sound you hear sound something like woooo wooooo ? if so, then thats also normal during a break in period on act puck clutches ive seen

if the shaking continues for longer then 500-1000 miles, then u might want to inspect your tranny bolts to make sure none of them came loose

My clutchmasters clutch shook during the break in period, it stopped after about 450 miles...don't know anything about the whining sound, sometimes mine does that if coasting in 1st gear

Did you make sure and torque all of the pressure plate bolts down to spec? If not you will get a lot of clutch chatter. Also, make sure your mounts are all connected and not free hanging anywhere.

Well, one of my engine mount bolts came loose and fell out. I put a new bolt in and the shaking at the beginning stoppped, but everything else still happpens. But i also remember when i put everything together my bottom rear engine mount was shot, like in two pieces. So i think that may be causing the other noises.

I bought the one that has a heavey duty pressure plate, street disc, and a new release bearing. Part #TY2-HDOO. I have been babying it since i installed it. It does not sound like wooooo woooo, it sound almost similar to what a car sounds like when you go in reverse.

I know that they are tight, but not to spec. Yea i need new engine mounts. I CAN NOT find polyurethane engine mounts, i have looked everywhere. Should i just buy stock ones? or does anyone know where to get them?

TRD6GC... there is a guy on mr2oc that can make poly mount insterts for us....only catch is that you have to mail him you mounts so that he can make a mold of them. the cool thing is, if you mail yours in, he will mail them back to u with the inserts for free... then based on your mold he will start selling them to the celica guys.

I def would be willing to do that, pending on how long i would have to wait for them, however, like i said my one bottom rear mount is in two pieces. Would he be able to still do it with the mounts in that condition?

Lagos, ask the guy how long it would take for him to make the molds once he receives my mounts. Also, will i be able to take out all of the inserts and just support my engine for the time being without taking out my engine?

kirkosaurus@hotmail.com email him and talk to him directly . as long as you dont drive your car, you can take out the front and rear mounts and just have the engine supported by the 2 mounts of the left and right. at least it worked for me during my swap.

Thanks a lot lagos! I e-mailed him. If it does not take long then i will definitely do it, and i will just support my engine while there out just to be safe. When i did my clutch just the two side mounts kept it in fine so it should be good. Thanks again and i will post back to let ya know whats going on.

Ok well this is just not my month i guess. I never got an e-mail back so i bought a stock motor mount, i did not want to drive my car that long with it in that condition. The motor mount i said was ruined is fixed and the bang noise is gone, drives much much better, big difference.
As for the winding noise, it turns out that my tranny drain plug came out, and i was driving with no gear oil in my tranny. When the guy did my clutch he must not have tightened it and it fell out (just like my motor mount bolt), but i saw him put in three quarts of gear oil so i know it was at in there to begin with. I bought a new drain plug and put in some good synthetic gear oil, and now the noises are gone.

So all of the weird noises i posted about are gone, BUT, i have a new one. I heard a noise when i was slowing down, like "waint a waint a waint waint a" as my tire turns(front left). Doesnt make the noise when i jack it up and let the wheel turn in 1st gear, only when on the ground. And i took my brakes all apart to check for like a rock or something and nothing. The only reason this noise does not bother me too much is because i jacked the car up to look for the noise, and saw my drain plug gone. So this noise essentailly saved my tranny..........And this officially makes JUNE 2005 the worst month since i have had my car.

Far out.

Same with me, this month has been the worst for me so far... repairs done or needing to be done a.s.a.p. so I can pass safety and emissions:

1. Drivers side CV axle, mechanic "says" passenger side will need to be replaced in the next 10k or so miles also.
2. Alternator
3. Battery (Dead alt KILLED the old battery)
4. EGR emissions CRAP (couldn't get it fixed on my own)
5. Removing 25% tint
6. New carbon fiber hood, old one was cracking from bondo repair (before I got the vehicle)
7. Missing lug nut (which I drove without on drive to LA and back to get my hood)

In total... $800+, I don't really want to do the math... >> in repairs/replacements, and somewhere near 20 hours working on it myself, plus a 1300 mile, 2 day drive to get the CF hood.

I'm not complaining by any means, I love my car still. >>
