Whats up guys I'm the new guy. Any of you know if the 3S-GTE was ever made in Automatic?
3S-GTE in Automatic? - 6G Celicas Forums

My wife's car is automatic too ....how hard is it to find a automatic version?
--macavely+Apr 17, 2003 - 9:31 PM
actually, only now in the caldina gt4 does the 3sgte(4th generation) come mated to an automatic AWD tranny.
all previous generations of the 3sgte never came with an automatic tranny
Batibot, what kind of celica does you wife have? just because a celica without the 3sgte came in auto doesnt mean all models had an auto tranny as an option.

I think there where some of the 3sgte's offered in auto - I would check with some of the members overseas to verify that. I do know that the 3sge was offered in a auto so would assume that there where 3sgte's with that option.
You will be able to bolt up an auto transmission to the 3sgte though without ne problem. I would use the 3sge auto tranns though. I dont think you will have to change a few wires on the ecu to make this work correctly. I know that when you do a tranny swap from auto to stick in the 6th gen that there are 2 ecu wires that have to switched or moved but cant remember wich there are

reaaly appreciate the help waitng for goooood reply towards really fast 3sgte automatic >

i did not say that there are no automatic trannys that bolt up to a 3sgte because there are a few.
but untill the caldina gt4 an auto tranny was never put on a 3sgte which means that you will never find the parts to just bolt them together and have it work. you will need custom work and parts and a custom ecu to control the auto tranny. an ecu from an automatic car might work for a 5spd swap, but an ecu from a 5spd car will NOT work with with an auto tranny
so once again, there is only one automatic 3sgte tranny and that is in the brand new gt4, but it is AWD and will be of no use in a simple swap, it will also be very expensive because they are all new parts on the market now.
so to find an automatic FWD version
IT WILL BE IMPOSSIBLE

why do people keep saying 3s-gte automatic?
you can put a 5s-fe auto into a celica with a stick
the tranny has nothing to do with the engine.
and as for your question
YES you can put your 3s-gte engine into your GT celica and use your stock auto tranny.

so your saying I can put a 3sgte engine and scrap the tranny and bolt the 5sfe tranny into it? doenst make any sense?....
what he is saying is that NE transmission that is from the "S" engine family will work with the 3sgte motor - that includes all transmissions for the 5sfe, 3sgte and 3sge. the problem is the ECU - I know that you can swap from a auto to a manual and keep the same ECU - I would ASSUME that would be the same for a ECU set up for a manual to be converted to a auto - I would call Toysport and get there opinion about it.
BTW - Why auto?

my wife's car is automatic but she can drive stick(slugish tough) so she doesn't wanna take the chance and more work converting from auto to stick....
I would just do the conversion to manual then - ur gonna have to take almost everything out newayz and the conversion to manual isnt all that hard to do in your case ur just gonna need to hang a clutch pedal, run the cable, master and slave cylinoid and just a few other small things - look into it

you know what talking about swaps how much would everything run me anywayz!!!??
i would suggest calling a local tranny shop
along with what neverstop said.
i heard that there is a switch that you have to get off a manual car to tell the starter that the clutch is disengaged.

Hey, I'm sorta new too, what's it going to take to drop a 3S-GTE into my 1997 Toyota Celica GT ST204 Automatic? Will I need to purchase the front clip? Or just certain parts?
I also see they have the 3S-GE in Automatic, would that be a simpler drop, and require less parts?

the best thing to do in my opinion is to get the st205 or st 185 front clip. that way you have all the parts.
you can get those from www.jarcoinc.com
they have the lowest prices that i have ever seen.
it is a drop in swap. which means. take out your engine and put in the one from the clip.

$$$$$$$$$$$
u will spend at least 4-5k if your going to do this, at least if you want a 3sgte thats worth it.
diffently dont go with a st165 - buy a later version 3sge cus its better and the Hp is about the same.
The best power to money ratio would be a JDM st185 90-93 alltrac motor - its the easiest to get parts for and there where ALOT of the made.
If money isnt really that big of an issue then get a ST205 perferable a type "A"/ R/C
Also if your gonna do this swap make sure that you dont cut NE corners at all - and sorce all of your parts before starting NE thing! - Im talkin down to the very last little nut and screw cuz once this motor is in the engine bay there really isnt any working on it.
BTW for those that have seen a 3sgte pulled out of a motor how do you guys think it compares sizewise to a Chevy 350???

those newer versions of the 3sgte(supposive to be in the scion ccx) will be 4 speed autos,
but those engines would run very hefty prices!! seeing that they are newer, plus would require different motormounts and such since they being in the caldina or whatever in JApan

i'm going to call one of the site's that was mentioned here i'll keep you guys updated if I can use a 3sge ecu auto on 3sgte motor....
i called toysport and they said it will be cheaper if you do a auto to stick conversion but on my case my wife want's to keep it auto ....so they said buy a 3sgte clip bolt the 5sfe tranny into it and special order a ecu for the turbo motor for $600 they said it will have no problem doing that.....shipping for the ecu will take about 2 weeks thay said.....I will call them tommorow and order the ecu...and for the motor i'm going for jarcoinc!!!!!!!

Hey batibot, about what is that all going to cost you? How much cheeper did they say would be the auto to manual switch roughly?
people people
3s-gte's are not manual or auto engines....
it all depends on what tranny that you hook it up to
the auto to manual depends on how many parts you have and where you go... call around your area ask them..
people on here would not know unless they live in the same area as you...they can only tell you what sort of deals that they got.

(translation for the reply that prepcelica did)
there's a lot of cheap 3sgte everywhere..the problem is the labor, just find a friend that knows how to work on cars that has turbo so you can save money.Get the 2nd generation so no hassel but if you got alot of money just get the 3rd gen. Sometimes when you get the motor it includes the ecu and the tranny but if the ecu and the tranny ain't included just go to the junk yard..try to find a 2.2 or 2.0 if you go lower than that your swap will be useless.....
ho[pe this help for those people that doesn't know how to translate filipino language.....
